Was in the area today so decided to drop in on Dan B at his local, after learning the seldom-seen G-HUEY was inbound, in glorious weather.
With thanks to Dan for the loan of his spare camera, here's a flavour of one of the best ex-military machines on the UK register.

It amazes me the Huey doesn't get more airshow bookings. Fantastic looking thing!

Very nice. A real treat to see in such great light.

She's looking very plain. Do they put all the US Army stencilling on for each show? I know she carries the G-HUEY when transitting, but assumed all the other markings remained in situ?

Lovely shots in great light, something I have not seen before, like to see it around more.

It carries the civvy reg all the time. Not sure when or why the US Army titles disappeared though - I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it actually. It was used for film work a few months back painted in an all-over black scheme IIRC, so maybe they were removed during that time.
It was only on static display this weekend at Damyns Hall - the flying display (which is usually constitutes the bulk, if not the entire season of public displays for this aircraft) was cancelled in light of the new CAA regulations.
In all the times I've been to North Weald, this is only my third sighting of the aircraft in the air.

Excellent machine.
Makes one wonder why an Airshow hasn't made a bit more of this machine. I would imagine this, G-UH1H and the Loach (and Cobra, if they're still trying to restore that?), along with the Bronco could make quite a quaint Cold War corner at a show somewhere...

Indeed. Problem is probably that it's quite niche. Vietnam barely resonates with the hoi palloi in this country, and I'd imagine it would cost a few quid in fuel, probably more than the pile-em-high, sell-em-cheap aerobatic filler acts more targetted towards the family audience.
Think how this would improve the dire line-ups at somewhere like Gransden, or if it returns, Throckmorton.
