"The flight went really well and the only issue was when it landed."
I love that line

Re: Minor incident for Airlander
Quite so. Picked it up from Sky on the internet earlier and doesn't appear to be serious. Let's hope not.
Just watched the video. Came to rest very slowly nose down. The clip is titled Airlander10 crashing!

User error?
Maybe something for another thread, but what is the eventual purpose of these things? In my mind, as much as I like them, there are fundamental issues with airship designs that cannot really be engineered out of the equation.

Let's hope this is repairable pretty quickly? More concern over the audio from youngsters, than adults.

Heavy lift of equipment to places that aeroplanes can not land. Such as remote Alaskan mines.
Re: Minor incident for Airlander
I wouldn't say it was minor to be honest. Yes, thankfully, nobody was injured and the descent was slow but clearly nose down and perhaps out of control (without trying to sound sensationalist). That's a considerable amount of damage to the cockpit too, perhaps lucky the crew were unhurt.
Hopefully it's fixed soon and whatever the cause was, is rectified soon.

Re: Minor incident for Airlander
To be fair, it was only the second flight, so I guess the pilots notes don't exist. I must be a massive learning curve, pretty much making it up as you go along.

I am a massive fan of "Outback Truckers" and those guys go though hell to get essential supplies into isolated locations. So I can see the potential.

Looking at the new footage I would tend to agree - however when I first posted the BBC link the headline seemed to indicated that it had "clipped a telegraph pole"

Re: Minor incident for Airlander
Reports suggesting a mooring cable fouled telephone wires on approach would certainly account for such a nose-down attitude over the landing field.

Shamefully, Sky News have tweeted a speeded-up video clip, which makes it look far, far worse than it was.

Blimey !! Why did it keep bouncing on the ground? It looks like a space-hopper that's gone wrong.

A combination of gravity and the elasticity of the dirigble skin.

Methinks, engines stuck in same speed and mode, not disabled by impact.

You are clearly unaware of the age of some of the membership. Refreshing to see the word still used.

I think perhaps archaic language is appropriate for archaic technology? There have been several attempts to resurrect airship technology since the Hindenburg. Success has so far eluded them. I wonder why they think this one will succeed where others have failed?

Forsooth, our members are entitled to use whatsoever words they wish! Meseemeth it is not for us to ask wherefore nor would we fain dictate unto them a prescribed vocabulary.

My thinking exactly. The only role, commercial or otherwise, that they've fulfilled with any success since those times is as an airborne billboard. I've seen nothing on this one that makes any claim to its capability other than endurance.
Re: Minor incident for Airlander
Archaic language makes a change from the usual parlance; Waddo, Tonkas etc.
