2016 - Head In The Clouds
2016 - Head In The Clouds
Not really sure how best to sum up this past year to be honest, it's been nothing short of amazing and I feel incredibly lucky that I've had these opportunities for work. It's been pretty varied work from HEMS operators to a CSAR unit, the flying has been unreal and at times a little stomach churning. Visited new countries, new cities and met some amazing people along the way creating some memories that will stay with me forever, from BBQs in Sweden to shooting a .50 cal from a Pave Hawk and finally logging over 100 hours of flight time whilst photographing.. Anyway I hope you enjoy the images, of which there are a lot so sorry!
I'll try and keep it in chronological order too.
First off was a visit to Wiltshire Air Ambulance, the only HEMS operator in the UK to use the Bell 429. We flew to the helipad at Great Western Hospital in Swindon, I had five minutes to get a few shots and then it was the quick hope back to their base.

The drive up was absolutely awful as I'd managed to pick up some kind of food poisoning, being sick, sweating etc. I thought I would kick it after a day or two but it seems not. What should have been an awesome week of flying on live firing missions on Tain Range turned into a repetitive mantra of "Don't be sick in the aircraft". I should have been flying on two sorties per day, I managed just one each day and then had to go and lie down for the rest of it! But the guys were awesome, I got to fire a .50 cal on the range whilst they held it in the hover!

Absolutely stunning!! can´t pick a favourite-best post in a long time here
Re: 2016 - Head In The Clouds
Refreshingly varied top notch images taken with a lot of skill which as i know is not easy to build up. Unless you have done it I find it hard to convey to others just how many aspects have to go right to produce these quality results. Airborne photography especially can turn into a nightmare with many wasted plans. Hope you have recovered and do drop me a message if you need work covering in North Scotland.
Re: 2016 - Head In The Clouds
Great stuff Lloyd, all top images but I still really like the last one with the water going through the rotors

Guys thank you for you're incredibly kind replies, it's always lovely to hear that your work good!
There's loads that are sat on my hard drive un-edited! And some that I'm holding back, like the Hawk A2A and shots from Italy
That really means a lot, Peter, thank you.

Re: 2016 - Head In The Clouds
This set is awesome. Many give a sense of action and immediacy that is often lacking from operational shoots (IMO).
I've heard from many people that there aren't opportunities for military enthusiasts and photographers in the modern era, and that the opportunities that are available won't amount to enough to get you noticed and so on. Just goes to show that with talent, professionalism and determination, you can still make a name for yourself and produce something unique.
Anyhoo, I'll stop blowing smoke now...

Incredible set, every single shot is either interesting or awesome(or both in many cases!)
Re: 2016 - Head In The Clouds
Thanks Stu!
Means a lot Elliot, thank you. It's taken a lot of time & effort but I feel that I'm slowly starting to reap the rewards now, especially this year.
Appreciate the kind words.
