Airshows in Italy 2017

Post by magister »

We are thinking of taking a trip to Italy this summer and I was hoping to maybe take in an airshow if possible. I have checked various websites such as milavia etc. but just cannot find any schedules for Italian airshows in 2017. I have even tried to look up a schedule for the Frecce Tricolori with the assumption that they will be displaying in Italy at some stage over the summer but to no avail.

Does anyone know where this information might be found or better yet have any first hand info/experience?

Many thanks.

Would keep an eye here in case any get added http://www.scramble.nl/show-dates/europe/country

There's been a show in Rome the last couple of years and there's normally a show at Rivolto toward the end of the season.

Hi Magister, unfortunately big airshows are extremely rare in Italy. The times of the yearly "Giornata Azzurra" (a big airshow with participants from all of Europe) are now over.

Now the typical Italian airshow is held on the seaside and lasts just few hours, there are just few general aviation planes from the local flying club, maybe one or two displays by the Reparto Sperimentale Volo if you are lucky and the Frecce Tricolori at the end. Only at some airshows (in the recent past only the Roma International Air Show and the Jesolo Air Extreme come to mind) there are foreign visitors.

The big airshow in Rivolto is held only if the Frecce Tricolori celebrate a round anniversary.

Anyway, the Frecce Tricolori and Reparto Sperimentale Volo airshows are usually revealed on the Italian Air Force website no later than April (the season officially opens on 1st May in Rivolto, but it is reserved to journalists, Club Frecce Tricolori members and disabled people only).

If you are interested in historical aircraft, Historical Aircraft Group Italy (http://www.hag-italy.it/) every year organizes the FlyParty, a small historical airshow on an airfield near Padua. Don't expect anything like Duxford or Shuttleworth though, it's not really worth a trip only for this.
My reports from past editions (2015 and earlier are in Italian only, sorry):

Hi Dysco, thanks a million for that information. It looks like I'm out of luck for a decent airshow during our trip!
I have to say I am kind of surprised that there are not that many airshows in Italy given the popularity of the Frecce Tricolori.

Thanks again for the info!

Patrulla Aguila has already announced they will participate to Jesolo European Airshow 2017 near Venice, 26-27 August, so there MAY be some chance to see other foreign visitors at that airshow. However, the airshow page still shows only the 2016 edition: http://www.jesoloairshow.it/

Be aware it will be held on a beach facing towards the south, so you will be backlit for most of the airshow duration, if not for its entire duration.

Also Patrouille de France confirmed its participation to the Jesolo airshow.
