Newark Air Museum News 2017

Post by NAM Updater »

As with previous years I thought I’d create a new Newark Air Museum News thread to use for short updates and news snippets from eastern Nottinghamshire.

As the year progresses we will provide updated details of museum activities in here!

This could include such things as the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Table Top Sale – 4 March 2017; etc., other event news, new arrivals etc. which can also be found in here!

Many thanks to those people who have visited the museum in 2016 and we hope to see you again this year and a Happy New Year to you all.

Could a Moderator please lock the previous Miscellaneous Newark Air Museum News thread?

Whilst the museum is closed today (1 January) we’re back open at 10am tomorrow, Monday 2 January 2017.

Details about some possible access issues for this coming weekend have been added to our website. This relates to the Carole Nash Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic Show that takes place on 7th & 8th January on the Showground – more details in here.

If you’re visiting that show why not pay us a visit as well!!

Already this year we have seen a slight upswing in the number of Group Visit enquiries that we have received for visits to the museum. Unsurprisingly some of these have been from aviation groups, ATC Squadrons and Squadron Associations.

To try and provide some background information for these types of enquiry we have just added a Group Visit page to the museum website.

Today the Saab Viggen in Display Hangar 2 at the museum has been the centre of attention. The Little Jet Company has been LiDAR scanning & photographing the aircraft for a large scale flying model project that they are undertaking.

As well as around the airframe they have been undertaking some internal photography of panels, cockpit etc. Fresh out of the camera in Hangar 2 here’s a link to a 360 degree view of the Viggen cockpit https://theta360.com/s/ifmcdFCMP7n0H5KP52WXhYPh2

No major damage to report to the aircraft or site infrastructure and we’re open as normal today until 4pm (last admission @ 3pm) http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Opening-Times

Fence damage to western end of Southfield Site due to some Airfield Anarchy obstacles that have been blown over the fence – not an issue to the site being open!

A quick reminder that we move onto our spring opening times tomorrow (10am until 5pm; last admission 4pm; last admission to the shop 4.40pm). http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Opening-Times

March 2017 will also be the last month at the current admission prices, which will have to increase slightly at the beginning of April so that we can meet our statutory wage obligations.

Also please don’t forget it’s our Indoor Aeroboot on Saturday 4th March.
