Psst, Want to see a naked Lancaster....

Post by stevejb »

Well it was advertised as "Just Jane - undressed", so not really out of context. :P

This was last weekend's TimeLine Event's photoshoot at East Kirkby, and the chance to see Just Jane stripped back and partially dismantled during the survey and maintenance aimed at supporting an eventual return to flight. With all the barriers removed and a smaller than normal limited attendance it was a unique chance to see the aircraft as you'll probably never see it again.

The fuel tank installation that caused a number of problems for the BBMF

The H2S radar, visible now with the lower radome removed. This is not fitted to the current two airworthy aircraft

We finished with a couple of re-enactors, along with coloured lights and a smoke machine, so some atmospheric edits to finish.

Thanks for looking,

Surely, instead of aircrew, they should have had factory workers with rivet guns and other tools. They said it was going to represent more of a construction line than operational base.

From Lincs Aviation and Timeline websites:
"Liken this to the manufacturing plants of Avro in the 1940's, a hive of activity and an aircraft being prepared for her debut mission".

As they often have women re-enactors at East Kirkby, I thought that was what they were doing - not two blokes in flying gear! What would they be doing with a stripped-down plane?

Despite the weird inclusion of those particular re-enactors, the first shot of the trio is incredible!

I know it's not historically accurate but I do like the atmosphere/re-enactment shots.

Very apt me thinks, I like the black and white ghost shot almost a nod to the guy that this project is all about and also to the many thousands of airmen who didn't return home from ops, thank you for sharing

Still like them though, to be fair in the first shot you can't see the dome though they might have used them in the fifties whilst down under being flownby the french.

I went yesterday. Access is brilliant. The talk is given inside the barriers. I was stood under the bomb bay. Lots of people working so gave more of a factory feel. Only £8 rather than the £48 TL wants. Definitely worth going
