Very good. Would love to see the Dakota too. Flying or static.

In regards to the Swiss, what aircraft will they be flying? 2016 was meant to be their last year in the F5s. Has the flying life been extended or have they got new aircraft for 2017?

Nope, the ever beautiful F-5E Tiger II. Lovely aircraft
When Ben Dunnel asked the PS commentator last year on the Sunday, the answer was that they would fly on for a few more years on the F-5. A bit as a consequense of the referendum when the Swiss people rejected buying a new fighter.

And about the Dakota, it has been at RIAT for a few times in recent years, although static. As the RAF hasn't confirmed any statics yet, there is still a chance if it showing up, I think.

You answer your own question I think. No doubt someone can tell us how many participants had been announced by this time last year but it doesn't seem slow to me no.

3 aerobatic teams, 2 fast jets and 5 iconic warbirds (and that's just what's confirmed by DBH) doesn't sound too bad for mid (ish) March.

In this tempo we will be lucky if we'll have 25 aircraft on static and a six hour flying display.

I'd say its more than a decent start, add in the Spanish F-18, Czech assets and Romanian participation and its looking very healthy.

Yeah, yeah, I know, not confirmed by DBH etc, etc.

While it seems a 'slow' start. Last year did start earlier, however had weeks where there was no Thursday update. This seemed to be a few times looking through 2016 threads. That and so far we only have been getting 1 Air force at a time, last year around this time is when they had multiple countries in 1 update.

Have the Romanian's confirmed anything yet on their side?

Honestly, I think it feels like a slow start too but I think that is circumstantial and to blame for this is the wealth of potential additions out there that we *think* will be confirmed each week. Add that to the remarkable Sanicole line up and it seems slow.

Romanian? They've been "ongoing" most years recently haven't they? Doesn't mean that they'll send anything and I'd put money on it being a C-27 if they did.

Think it's been stated somewhere that the Romanians plan to send asset(s) to RIAT and 3 other international shows

The Romanian participation came from the airshow.hu page which is to my knowledge always bang on.

I know I'm opening myself up to some abuse but when do you think we are likely to start seeing static participation from all US assets?

Much much closer to the show, probably June going on previous years.

Soloturk appears to have this evening self-confirmed on Twitter.

Good stuff, healthy fast jet participation last year and it was arguably the best performance.

Well it definately was the best F-16 display.Don't think it was the best performance overall though.

I think it might have been if it could have flown on Sunday.

Raptor was really impressive in rehearsal and Friday(?) But wx limited it on Saturday and it went tech on Sunday so by the end of the weekend i was a little underwhelmed. Ifelt it was an award of type over the actual display and i thought that Soloturk and the French Rafale were just as good, if not better.

That'll be the 'update' that's not an update, then......when DBH announce it, then it's an update.

Glad to see Soloturk (if it's confirmed by DBH!) as missed most of last years display doing some static.

Hoping this week DBH start giving us some surprises or good updates.

The last few have been yesterday's news and deflated the announcements such as the RAF that had been confirmed at all other venues on the run up so was expected plus the Pat Suisse and Raptor news days before the updates.

I'm sure the I'll get the usual tirade of replies "when it's confirmed by the operator then DBH will confirm" etc but just voicing a minority opinion.
It's the world's biggest airshow but Biggin Hill is confirming at a quicker rate and that's in August.
