Short Eared Owl rules ok

Post by colper »

Is there anything better than being up close with nature. It won't be long before the shorties move northwards,so when they are around you just have to take a picture or two

Very well captured Colin. Ones on the ground are the shots not normally seen only flying so well spotted.

The first and last shots are of adult female birds (pale faces, with white edging to the disc) whilst the bird on the ground looks like a juvenile to me (darker face with no white-edging), which may explain it being 'out in the open' and not being spooked into flying off.

I have seen adults perch out in the open on the ground when hunting but generally only for short periods. If they are perched on the ground they are normally so well hidden that you have no idea of their presence until they take-off just before you stand on them!!!

Great shots again Colin!
