I assume the aircraft is still there now? How will they get it out if leaving involves destroying the other runway?

Nope it left about 5:30 the same day using 16 as it is in better condition, with no debris being thrown up

The problem was that 10 had lose runway chunks and as it is a rare occurance that a jet operates from HPG so it is not usually a problem

pbeardmore wrote:That statement is misleading IMHO as (from the video) damage was being caused during the back track so the runway contained serious FOD during the take off.

We are still in a "post Shoreham" environment within the media so operating classic jets from runways that are suitable would seem to be a good idea? Plus, its the video that the media are interested in so even the smallest of events gets coverage.

Indeed though initially from a distance it looked like loose grass cuttings as he taxied close to the runway edge to turn onto the active. It really was only during the take off run it became very apparent what was happening but he was more than committed by then! :joystick:

Presumably, and makes the decision land back on rather than RTB even more barmy (although I believe I read that there was an electrical issue that may have added to the mix)....

With Shoreham fresh in the mind of many (still?), there are a vocal minority determined to blow this out of proportion. Thankfully, nobody was hurt (not even the aircraft) and they moved quickly to remove any debris off the runway - I'm sure (pilot) Mark is more experienced than anyone creating hysteria, and therefore would been sufficient to judge what was happening in real-time in a calm and professional manner.

The runway at Halfpenny Green has required resurfacing for a considerable length time, but the process of getting to that stage (for one reason or another) has been very complex. This issue is down to the airfield/organisers of the event; not the aircraft or pilot.

Hi All.

Would like to say a big thanks for the positive comments about the Fly-in and the points such as aircraft Parking and some aircraft not attending things to work on for the next one. There won't be another one this year as we are making it a yearly vintage fly-in,if you have any photos we would love to see them and hope to see you at Edition 6.

Cheers

Andy

Andy Thanks again for organising. The red VW in the rain was useful to watch the Vampire depart. Who'd have thought about organising that. I've sent a pic of your mate while being pushed down the runway but had no response so unsure if he received it. Let me know. You mentioned the fly by of the tower pic to me Sunday, if you want a copy pm me your email address.

Just a quick one to say thanks to Andy and the team for organising this. Hopefully I'll be able to make both days next year, I had to work on the saturday.

With any luck my big red VW will be more of a house by next year. I'll get the kettle on for you guys. I knew there was a reason I got a tailgate one.

Thanks again guys, and it was good to meet Rob and the others up at the 34 threshold.
