Shuttleworth Fly Navy 2017 (M43 non-DSLR) - Updated

Post by Hatstand »

There were many cancellations we knew about, and a few more on the day...
...the lovely sunny weather in the morning turned to dull grey skies by the afternoon...
...and it was a bit chilly too.

But in spite of everything, it was a great day of flying, and the crowds were out in force!

I don't know how long ago Shuttleworth replaced the snack trailer, but it was the first time I've seen the "new" one... the bacon rolls were all jammed with 3 huge rashers each... yum! And only 3.50 (dirt cheap by today's airshow standards!) :-D~~

More adventures when I discovered I had accidentally left my wide-angle lens at home, which made for an "interesting challenge" when taking photos of the statics etc, with 200mm equivalent as my widest focal length :-D

Well. Here's a few of my photos, such as they are. Apart from a few taken in the morning, I'm afraid the flying shots are mostly "plane in featureless gray sky" - which doesn't at all convey how exciting and dynamic many of the displays were... oh well...

All taken with a Panasonic G80 micro-four-thirds (non-DSLR) camera, Panasonic 100-300mm MkII lens (200-600mm equivalent).
Red dot sight used as a viewfinder as usual, to watch the show with both eyes and full field of view, while still taking photos.

More later, from the ground displays...

Masterful panning, as ever. I need to rediscover my panning abilities.

I accidentally left my 24-120mm equivalent lens at home, and had to use my "flying" lens instead.
Consequently, all my "ground" shots had to be taken with at least 200mm equivalent focal length.
It was really quite jolly :-D

Hope you enjoyed!

Great set, definitely made the best of the somewhat iffy weather conditions. Can agree wholeheartedly about the quality and price of food, the only issue was the 45 minute wait to get it!

Yet another great set of captures, the 100 -300mm really does the job!
Anything less than 900mm is wide angle
