Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
is back, July 8th and 9th (same as Flying Legends at Duxford)
Says there will be a 2-hour afternoon display featuring Spitfires, Hurricanes, and others like Tiger Moth and Storch, an airfield attack scenario will feature too.
Currently only £10 for the weekend.
It was a really good little show last time they had it, great light for photos, the sun is behind you all afternoon.

Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
Certainly looked like a decent event last time, purely for the photogenic qualities. One to watch if it gets a decent number of warbirds.

Any more news on this one with just under a month to go? Loved it in 2015.

Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
I made an enquiry earlier this afternoon - details will be released on the website soon, apparently.
It was a superb event in 2015, one of the most enjoyable air displays I think I've ever attended.

Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
All it says on the advert is the BBMF and Aero Legends fleet will be performing, I've asked if there is anything else but got no reply.

Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
I hope there's more than that flying, you can see the Aero Legends fleet almost weekly at Headcorn.
The last show they did had superb tail chases with Buchons, Spitfires and Hurricanes, and the Blenheim, which were excellent displays.

Looks like a good Buchon conversion.

Great stuff, and more still to come. Hopefully the Blenheim again, and maybe a few more Spitfires.
Hangar 11 had an aircraft at the last show too, so with any luck they'll be back also.

It's a cut-and-shut of two Buchons (both of which have appeared at Legends in recent years) with a few added windows.

and a DB605. Considering the Buchon is pretty much just a 109G-2 with a Merlin, then I'd say it's as close to a G-12 as you're going to get.

Actually, it currently has the Merlin installed!

Really? It only had the DB605 installed last year!
Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
Ok on further investigation it has a 'Quick Engine Change (QEC) system', meaning they can switch between the DB605 and Merlin fairly easily.
Any idea if they'll have the DB605 fitted for Headcorn?

No. The DB605 didn't exactly work out, which is why they bought the Richard Lake Buchon and grafted the front end of it onto the airframe to get it back into the air.

OK thanks, shame about the DB605 though.

Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
Hoping this show gets the 109E from Biggin. A nasty One Faux Nine's a bit disappointing, to be honest. This show set the bar very high two years ago.
Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
I wouldn't hold my breath for the Biggin 109 if I were you. The DB engine problems with low oil pressure caused by bearing issues appear to be endemic to all engines recently overhauled in the same shop.
Re: Headcorn Battle of Britain airshow
I wouldn't mind knowing what else is going to be added before the advanced ticket window/Groupon offer runs out
