CWJ 27th August - On Again!
CWJ 27th August - On Again!
According to LPG website this event has been cancelled, although they will be doing a Twilight Run on the 24th November. I seen reports of a possible Buccaneer event in September but this needs to be confirmed.

****As noted below and as title has been changed, there will be a smaller event on the 27th August....please see details near the bottom****

Oh dear - perhaps Mr Pleming was right after all....
Re: CWJ 27th August Cancelled...
I know that the Bucc group and Lightning group have done/are hosting their own events. Victor had a sqd reunion and the Comet got pulled along, so it's not all doom and gloom. Maybe in light of this news, the owners may put on a small individual event of their own; and don't forget you can access the site on Sunday to get up close and personal (check before going for availability).

"I've been cleared to tell you all that the August bank holiday open day is cancelled this year due to current onsite business levels.
There will be smaller events held by some of the groups if not all of them individually on different dates as normal.
Watch this space for more news as and when we get it.
Thanks."

No, it's a one off cancellation. Other factors involved in the decision will probably be made public later on. In the meantime most of the groups will be utilising availability of the runway for their own, smaller, events.
Wow, thank goodness XH558 didn't go there!
It's obvious that the expanding commercial activities on the site mean that the Cold War collection are in danger of just becoming static museum pieces. After all, the site is a business, and paying customers are always going to come first.
This seems like the beginning of the end for fast taxiing at Bruntingthorpe!
Utter rubbish and unhelpful conjecture.

Yeah, because it's gone to a great home!
Real shame about CWJ though, missed May to do August, but it is what it is... roll on May.

Massive public event on this weekend at Bruntinthorpes, motor Madness 2017.
The place does have blips some years for storage demands from the big car manufacturers.
If a new model launch is being done etc.
The storage brings in the money and it keeps the place running and good finances.
Nothing to worry about,

Re: CWJ 27th August Cancelled...
A pity to lose the August event, but there was a delay in confirming May's event ( which I haven't noticed before ) so it's not really a surprise given the obvious and continuing levels of car storage on site.
I think it would be an over-reaction to start talking about the 'beginning of the end' etc but it does underline that 'commercial' comes first. Let's hope it's a return to normal next year, both for the spectacle of the jets, and for the volunteers who keep them running.

Indeed. Anyone who went in May would have noticed how much busier is was then - and there was another exhibition set up in progress too. Now if you look at pictures posted from there it's actually quite quiet in terms of storage, but as you say there are some (temporary) blips.

Event back on again on August 27, albeit on a smaller scale with not as many jets running (confirmed via the Bruntingthorpe facebook group). Pay on the day is available.

Contrary to earlier postings – and with Mr David Walton’s kind permission – there will be a Cold War Jet Thunder Day on Sunday 27th August 2017 at Bruntingthorpe Airfield, Bath Lane, Bruntingthorpe LE17 5QS.
Some of the jewels of British aviation heritage will be on display and giving fast taxi demonstrations along the 2 mile runway. The participants expected: Victor K2 XM715, 2 x Blackburn Buccaneers, English Electric Canberra WT333, Vickers VC-10K ZD241, Jet Provost, plus the Delphin.
Gates open from 9am. Tickets £15 pp at the Gatehouse on the day. Children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult bearing a valid ticket. No trade stands
