Duxford July Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 2~05Jul17*

Post by Pen Pusher »

Summer returned to Duxford with blue sky and lots and lots of sunshine. Classic Wings were doing their usual fly in/fly with a Spitfire along with Harvard flights with the all yellow KF183. P-51/Miss Velma left first thing for Old Warden and returned early afternoon. TFC had their P-40F out for a handling flight and a spot of aerobatics. Mid afternoon and Spitfire Mk FR.XVIIIe/SM845 flew in from displaying at Cleethorpes. B-17/Sally-B went off to display at Old Warden and Cleethorpes as well and returned to Duxford the same time the Blenheim returned after its weekend away at Swansea and various displays en-route back to Duxford.

The blue sky and sunshine at the start of the day soon gave way to wall to wall cloud and it got quite humid at one point. Just turned 11am and P-51B/Berlin Express and its support KingAir aircraft arrived after their five day flight from Texas via Greenland and Iceland. The Three Horseman aircraft, Berlin Express, Frenesi and Sharkie were lined up at one point out on the grass. As well as TFC flying their Harvard, Hawk 75 and Wildcat, Frenesi went up for a short air test as well. The Aero Legends Dove/Devon did a practice display, not often you get a topside for that aircraft, and Richard Grace arrived in the Sea Fury. In the order taken.

It's not just mad dogs and Englishmen that go out in the mid-day sun, American Horsemen do as well as just after 12 o'clock they fired up their thoroughbreds and cantered up to the Alpha hold and to stand near to three P-51's doing power checks is a noise and vibration to experience. They flew off to the north for a practice display but returned early and Frenesi was returned to the stables, hangar 2, with a technical hitch. In the order taken.

Note the lack of fin fillet on Berlin Express compared to Frenesi behind it.
