Farnborough International Airshow 2018

Post by Tommy »

Thanks to IainT for the heads up:

Don't expect any substantial news for another 9 months or so, but 2018 webpage is live -

https://www.farnboroughairshow.com/

Be interesting to see if they secure an actual flying display from the F-35A, a la Paris, or indeed, whether there'll be any changes to the widely regarded stale (putting it mildly for some) modus operandi of the past decade or so...

The next edition of the Airshow will take place on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd July 2018.

The public airshow weekend will once again deliver an electrifying mix of aircraft both in the air and on the ground that will engage, enthral and excite the 80,000 visiting guests.

Aerobatic display teams, wing walkers, fast jets, military giants, civil airliners and historic aircraft will grace the skies over Farnborough to celebrate the Pioneers of the Sky.

With all this plus a wealth of entertainment, education and interaction on the ground, Farnborough International Airshow 2018 promises to be the best one yet!

Looking good.

Featuring a flypast at 20,000 feet over Blackbushe by RAFAT, accompanied by one of the heavies that actually displays aerobatically at Farnborough when not hampered by military jets....

Suggest you read up on what defines an 'aerobatic' display.

Obviously applies to the first bit but the second bit does read like a statement of fact.

Both Blenheim and Spitfire from the Aircraft Restoration company have been confirmed. Another Farnborough full off modern technology then.

It'll be another display program of acts that don't breach any CAA rules or need space over civilian buildings etc.

Yeah this is not a line up they should have opened with.

But they certainly will serve to juxtapose against the modern offerings. Also it would be a bit odd if they didn't use the 100 years to demonstrate Britain's and the RAF's trailblazing past a little so the war birds make some sense.

The wing walkers and the gyro tho.... nope.

I assume this is for the public weekend only, cannot find them on the trade pages, only the public pages. Presumably a taster to attract family ticket sales.

HeliOps Sea King (former RN "King Damian" Mk 5) confirmed, and the Mitsubishi MRJ.

https://www.farnboroughairshow.com/trad ... rnborough/

Looking forward to 2018, Mitsubishi Aircraft’s MRJ will be making its first appearance at the show and HeliOps will be showcasing one of its Sea King Mk5 aircraft (XV666 or Damian) which were formally used by for Royal Navy search and rescue. We are also witnessing quite a lot of interest from UAV manufacturers and are working with the CAA regarding these aircraft flying at the show.

I really did think that a member of the UK Airshow staff would have grasped the difference between the weekend show and the trade show

Doesn't matter if it is the public or trade day lists, FIA attracts enthusiasts through rare and interesting aircraft only seen here.

It doesn't attract enthusiasts for things that can be seen at multiple shows around the country in better photographic conditions for less than the £34 earlybird or £42 in advance ticket price FIA are asking... for the public days.

Well said Rampvan. The world leading trade-show aircraft line-up will be announced in due course and will be great as usual. With lots of associated items see in the new permanent buildings too. I just hope the weather behaves this year.

Unsurprisingly,

Russian military demonstrator aircraft/displays have been banned from appearing at FIA 2018 by the Government.

There is currently an EU wide ban on the movement of Russian military equipment.
