STOP PRESS! Red Arrows Hawk Replacement Announced

Post by UK Airshow Review »

STOP PRESS!

The replacement of the Red Arrows ageing fleet of Hawks has been announced by the MoD this morning.

UK Airshow Review can reveal that from 2023, the Red Arrows will transfer to the Textron AirLand Scorpion providing the team with a capable but cost-effective modern replacement.

UK Airshow Review were exclusively provided with this artists impression of the expected paint scheme.

We look forward to seeing them in the sky in 7 years time!

I would've likes to either Typhoon's, F-16C's or F-18's as the replacement not flying plastic milk bottles!!!!! :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

What the hell? You don't for a moment believe this do you?

We wouldn't buy F-18s or F-16s for the purpose of a display team, would be a waste of money so dream on if you want that to happen anytime soon!

In all seriousness though, how do the operating costs of the Scorpion compare to the Hawk? I know the RAF has loads of spares for the Hawks but if that wasn't a factor...

There aren't very many spare Scorpions at the moment anyway :-o

Has there ever been any official or semi-official word on an eventual replacement or replacement date? T.2s or the first tranche Typhoons would seem the only realistic replacement in the next ten years or so wouldn't they?

At Duxford 2014 September show one of the team's pr people told me they planned to stay with the team at least until they change aircraft. No timescale given or new type hinted at of course but it was said to me as a when not an if.

Hello

Re the replacement for the Hawk, aren't the Austrians getting rid of theirì fleet of 15 Typhoons around about 2020

Why would we need to buy second hand Typhoons off the Asutrians when we have hangars full of tranche 1 Typhoons of our own which are now essentially obsolete as the person/ committee writing the procurement contract didn't think to include that all further developments for tranche 2 onwards would require backwards comparability with tranche 1 aircraft. :wall:

Just drag them out and give them a wiff over in red.

But how would they bring the Circus with them..?

Might be tough squeezing them in the baggage compartment.
