Herne Bay Air Show 2017

Post by LittleRedTrain »

Looks like the Herne Bay Air Show (aka 'The South East Air Show 2017, Herne Bay') may be returning in August 2017.

http://www.kentonline.co.uk/herne-bay/n ... rn-117446/

Given they've had some excellent line-ups over the last couple of years (albeit with unfortunately cancellations due to last year's Turb ditching), hopefully they'll be able to pull something equally good out of the hat.

The BayPromoTeam have posted on Facebook that they've secured the Reds, Typhoon and BBMF.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_ ... 5720204203

They've booked Aerosparx pyrotechnic twilight display and are hoping for Sea Vixen, Vampire, Chinook and possibly Belgian F-16.

Last year was a great show, and if those acts awaiting confirmation do get confirmed then I'll be back again this year.

If Eastbourne don't sort out Beachy Head, I'll make my first trip to Herne Bay instead as I've only heard good things about it.

Herne Bay has been removed from the BBMF schedule. Maybe 3 displays in 1 day (Eastbourne & Biggin) was too much?

Sea Vixen now confirmed on Bay Promo Team's Facebook page, hopefully we don't have a repeat of last year and it gets a chance to display this time.

VIP tickets for the seated area on the pier are now available.

https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/baypromoteam

£30 each.

My partner and I did this last year and thought it was very good value, with strawberries and bubbly included!

PS Seems I jinxed things with my post above. Really hoping that Navy Wings can get the Sea Vixen flying again and I will finally be able to see her display, even if it's not looking likely for this year. :-(

Only on one day, 19th August. Shame as we probably won't be able to make it.

Oh well, Biggin it is then.

They were still talking about coming to Herne Bay on their Facebook page yesterday.

The shows website has been updated removing the BBMF Lancaster and Hurricane and replacing the Merlin Spitfire for a Griffon one and adding a C47 to the display.

strikemaster and Mig are still both shown

just noticed that the C47 isn't listed but looks like a big gap between the Vampires and the Gnat so could be then.

Great day out at Herne Bay yesterday. A couple of spots of rain, but otherwise great weather.

Only no-show was the Great War Display Team. Anyone know what happened to them? It did leave a big gap early on in the display.

Props to the pilot of the Gnat, who, suffering a tech problem with the yellow one, managed to bring the red one along instead, albeit a bit later than scheduled. Fortunately the display had plenty of gaps allowing some reshuffling.

I was on the pier again and unfortunately we had the same problem as last year, with the main commentary not being audible. Someone did manage to tune a radio into the local radio station which was relaying Melvyn's commentary, but it was still hard to hear most of it and know what was going on with reshuffling/rescheduling.
Still at £30 (including free programme, lots of bubbly with free refills and strawberries ice/cream), can't complain at the value for money!

Red Arrows went down well as usual, was expect them to arrive from crowd rear over the clocktower as in the past, so got caught when they came in right over the top of us on the pier instead. They seemed to be using a display centre slightly to the left of the other acts, more in line with the pier than clocktower.
Although some people had expressed their displeasure at being scheduled so late (1815), I found the lower sun actually enhanced the display, really bringing out the colour of the jets and smoke.

It was the first time I've seen the Aerosparx pyrotechnic display, and I was very impressed, as it seemed were most of the crowd who'd stuck around to watch it.

All in all, a great effort by BayPromoTeam, and let's hope for an equally good follow up next year.

Not a bad day out although it did feel a little disjointed with the gaps in the programme. Display of the day for me was the BHHH Spitfire which was very good indeed. The GWDT no show was due to the high winds which was a shame as they are such a gem on the display circuit.
Overall not a bad day and hopefully Herne Bay done ok out of it.

Valid comments, but having lost a 20 min item (Great War Team) early on, we were always going to have gaps. The bottom line is, if you want wall to wall acts, and of high quality, it is not going to happen at a show where there is no ticket price. All shows need a budget and acts cost a LOT of money! We explained at the start there would be gaps, and then the we tried to juggle them, but with other shows nearby we had to integrate timings so that we all benefitted and there had to be compromises. Add into that a Gnat that wouldn't start, only Giffons available from the BBMF, we ended up having acts where (annonced) gaps should have been and gaps were acts should have been. Most of what was booked happened within the overall time, and we got one replacement act, we did our best and if we could have improved, we would have. If organising air shows was easy everyone would do it.

I enjoyed the show, first time I had seen Team Raven and Aerosparx (day show only) and I thought they were excellent. Reds stole the show with an excellent display.
My only gripe - Music from the speakers was far too loud in the morning, so we moved to the left a bit to get out of the direct line of a speaker, still quite loud though, then when the airshow was on, we could hardly hear it.

Didn't have any trouble on the trains or queuing for toilets (which seem to be the main complaints on the Facebook group)
