farnboroughrob wrote:Hi guys looking for some advice for a possible trip next year. This is going to be combined with a family holiday staying in Valetta. I'm more of a spotter than photographer so was wondering a few things. On Friday is there any access to the based static aircraft (Maltese military and based light aircraft?) or is it just a runway enclosure? From the airport static what sort of view do you get of the rest of the airport, are you near the military hangars? The flying display site will not be far from our hotel, how busy does it get, how early do you have to get there. Any other tips appreciated?
thanks

Hello Rob....in ref to your questions.....There is normally access to the airshow stuff Friday through to Monday, check out the Malta International Air Show website......Malta IAP (Luqa) is very open and you can easily see most things from various points around the perimeter...there is also a couple of nice platforms that have been created on side of the main runway 13/31 by the Malta Aviation Society members that offer good views and photo ops....The local military normally fly a few sorties per day and usually taxi one of each type over to the static area on the sat and sun mornings...as previous mentioned in this thread there is normally two vantage points on the arrivals day, the one next to Park4 where the airshow area is next to the cross runway 05/23 which most of the light aircraft use a lot of the time.....Again this year the flying display is at smart city not the airport..
Anyway, make sure you visit a couple of times...Its a great place, great show, run by great and enthusiastic aviation people.....
