Gassing up Growlers over Nevada

Post by dinger »

During Red Flag 17-1, I was fortunate enough to be invited to fly on the Voyager and witness Typhoon and Growler re-fuelling up close. This was the first time that the Voyager had been cleared to re-fuel the Growlers during an exercise scenario and the Navy crews made the most of the opportunity.

You made the best of that opportunity!

Nice to see a RAF front seater on the Growler.

More likely an Aussie, they use the same ranks and also have Growlers themselves.
Nice shots, interesting that 41 where involved in Flag too.

Good point!

I was fixated on the RAF angle after seeing a RAF guy on F15Es

Many thanks. In response to the statement regarding the 41 Sqn Typhoon, it was a borrowed jet in a pool of airframes that headed to the USA on multiple exercises. During Red Flag 17-1, 6 Sqn were the lead unit, straight after Red Flag, the jets remained at Nellis for the follow on Green Flag where 2 Sqn used them. Once finished at Nellis, the jets were ferried to Langley for Ex Trilat where 1 Sqn used them before ferrying them home to the UK.
