Tommy in the Loop - Oct17

Post by Tommy »

Managed to get away back to mid-Wales recently, and spend a day in the Loop on 12/10

I've been having an awful run of bad luck in this hobby recently, so it was nice to see it had come to an end. In these times, a very decent day's hunting. Such a shame that the light which was forecast to be decent just became worse and worse as time wore on.

Main objective is to catch as many Tornados low level as I can before they retire. Grey an unmarked they may be, but they just look so right hoofing it around the valleys. I'll miss them when they're gone.

The Loop is also a great place to visit this time of year. I prefer October - March time; the weather/light is risky, but when the stars align, the colours of the background, lack of people on school holidays, and low light really can make the Loop the place to be!

Anyway, on with it:

Awesome to see a Merlin LL. Never managed one before, and great to see a HC3A - been years I've seen one with the modified nose.

That's a "Penn State" flag in the front of the cockpit.

Any idea to whom this Hawk belongs to now? Used to be a 208Sqn bird, but now they've disbanded and the T1s have left RAF Valley...?

Over-ambitious crops on this one and the next, I think :hide:

That's it. The best of a bad bunch in awful light, but insofar as action goes, my best trip to the Loop for some years.

As per, C&C greatly appreciated.

That's it for now. Thanks for looking, all.

All the best,

Tom

Great set and good to see some variety in traffic. Rotary stuff isn't exactly common in the Loop.

terrific set and even better when you consider how well you have managed with the limiting light.
