BigClick67's Kodachrome memories (updated 1st Nov.)

Post by BigClick67 »

When our world turned digital some 15 years ago I was in full swing with scanning all my slides. All those slides that didn´t make it into my ´best-of´-collection back then were stuffed in boxes and stored among all the other useless crap on the loft. After all those years I retrieved various of these boxes recently, and found plenty of gems that are surprisingly good! Okay, many have scratches, dust or are just ´kodachrome´ but they deserve to be preserved and shared!
So here comes my cream of the crap - planned as a long-term post that I will try to fill with many hopefully interesting images from the era of Golden Oldies,
or in other words Kodachrome memories from a better time. I hope you like them!
Cheers! Chris Braun

Whatever your hobby or passion it's always surprising when you have a rummage through discarded items, then find that after all some of them are pretty damn good, keep rummaging, judging by the pics posted I would bet there are more gems to be found. thank you.

Talking about MiGs...
Here comes a set of German MiG-29s:
#009 MiG-29 29+14 from then JG3 at Preschen, still in its NVA camo dress but already in (West) German markings. Seen here landing at Wittmund in March 1991 during trials with the then sensational helmet-mounted sight (note the pilot´s helmet!):

#010 MiG-29G 29+01 from Laage-based JG 73 "Steinhoff" in a rare outfit with an ´Archer´-missile (? am I right on this?) under its port wing station, caught at Kleine-Brogel during NTM2001:
Image
#011 MiG-29G 29+20 in special colours lined-up on Hopsten´s RWY01 after the Open Day 2001:

#012 & 013 MiG-29G 29+04 on the ramp at Wittmund during the type´s last DACT deployment in March 2004, shortly prior to disbandment:

#014 sister ship 29+18 seen taxiing in after a DACT hop with the local Richthofen Phantoms:

#018 Be-12 yellow 90

Lovely stuff, some beautiful Mig-29s in there aren't there?!

Pardon my ignorance, but in #34, the Mig seems to have an RN ensign added to the tail, any idea why?? Also, not sure what the airforce is either? Thanks and please do keep 'em coming if there are more!

How about some A-10s? I love the Warthog, especially in its classic Cold War green camo scheme. I was lucky enough to capture a few at various locations around West Germany back then. Great stuff!
#066 to #071 these were all taken at Nörvenich Air Base / FOL-4 on 20th July, 1988:
#066 A-10A 80-0281/WR(ylo) 81st TFW, 92nd TFS ´Skulls´ :

#077 82-0654/SP(blk) 52nd FW, 81st FS ´Panthers´ , RIAT´99 (probably my last photo taken from a photobus at a RIAT…):

Thanks for your comments!
I would like to continue with a mixed bag of classic Cold War warriors…
#078 & #079 In August 1996 Greek Corsairs were on a two-week squadron exchange with Jever-based JaBoG 38. 116.Pterix/335.MV from Souda sent three single and one two-seater to Jever, including
#078 A-7E 160537:
Image
#079 and TA-7H 156774:
Image
#080 there were Portuguese Corsairs also! a 2-ship display team was performing at the RNLAF Open Day at Leeuwarden in July 1994 … wish I could see and photograph that again today… awesome!
Image
#081 Before the TLP was finally settled at Florennes in Belgium it was roaming around northwestern European air bases, including a course held at Gilze-Rijen Air Base in the Netherlands in May 1995 (TLP95-3), including a pair of Portuguese jets,
here A-7P 15515 from Monte Real-based Esquadra 302:
Image
#082 and TA-7P 15547: the sideways hinged canopy looks great!
Image
#083 found another Hellenic Air Force example, TA-7C 156747 caught on the Fairford runway during RIAT´99s Grande Finale Runway Display (that was really cool!):
Image
#084 F-100F N418FS from TRACOR Flight Systems at Wittmund , seen landing at its homebase back in April 1996:
Image
#085 NF-5A K-3048 313.Squadron on finals at Twenthe on 2nd April, 1987:
Image
#086 Jaguar E E7(7-PL) was part of the French Air Force´s Jaguar Demo Team RAFFIN MIKE, seen here arriving for the 1998 Leeuwarden Air Show:
Image
#087 pure class! A trio of Bitburg Eagles (36th TFW, 53rd TFS) lined up for take-off from their homebase back in July 1988:
Image
#088 F-4G Wild Weasel 69-7281/SP(ylo) 52nd FW, 81st FS in the static line at Schleswig/Jagel on 3rd Sept., 1993:
Image
#089 G.91Y MM64x7(8-47) 8°Stormo, 101°Gruppo from Cervia, arriving at Pferdsfeld Air Base on 30th Sept., 1994:
Image
#090 the only time I witnessed a MiG-23 display was at the 1994 Wincrange Airshow in Luxembourg - boy, that was just awesome! This is the only usable photo I could find from that display and I remember the aircraft flying a series of rather wide and high circles at various speeds mostly showing its underside. This here was one of the more impressive fly-pasts!
Image
Thanks for looking!
Cheers, Chris
