Event: Spanhoe day- and nightshoot

Post by Threshold.aero »

Having languished in storage for nearly forty years, the near-mythical Reid and Sigrist R.S.4 Bobsleigh has returned to airworthy condition. More commonly known as the “Desford Trainer”, we are pleased to announce that it will be making its first post-restoration public appearance at Spanhoe Airfield on 10 February.

Working alongside Windmill Aviation, we will be throwing open the doors to Spanhoe for a day/night photocall, allowing unprecedented access to the airfield’s resident aircraft. We’re also expecting a number of visiting aircraft, subject to weather, of course.

The aircraft will be positioned with photography in mind for a four-hour photocall, before the sun sinks below the horizon and we bring out the floodlights for a night photography session.

Aircraft listed will be available during the day photoshoot and a list for the evening event will be provided in due course. Additional aircraft are still to be announced, all participation is subject to weather and serviceability.

Money raised from this event will be donated to The Air Ambulance Service, who cover the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Rutland.

A list of aircraft currently confirmed to be outside on the day is on our website.

Tickets are priced at £20* for the day event, and £30* for access to both the day and night photoshoots.

Looks a great line-up.
Saw the Desford about forty odd years ago - looks superb in the pics now.
Will certainly be signing up.

I'll echo that, will be great to see it at close quarters, last seen by me in the late 60's I believe

Will there be some running, thinking particularly of the night section?

I am sure I saw this many years ago but cant remember when or where.

Is this the only one ? Did it used to be in a museum or an airshow visitor?

Where might I have seen it many years ago?

Yup - that would be it - I must dig out my spotting logbook for 1977 or thereabouts.

I expect you'll have seen its current Spanhoe stablemate, Fokker S-11 G-BEPV/174 also; it being another former Strathallan airframe.

So what I'm hearing is you both need to buy tickets so you can see it 40-odd years later...

If nightshoots aren't your thing, then fear not - still plenty of day-only tickets!

We've magicked some more up, seeing as it's Christmas, but they're very limited. They can be purchased here: linky

I thoroughly enjoyed this event. The Weather improved after a dodgy start.
The `Bobsleigh` looked and sounded wonderful - credit to all concerned.

Huge thanks to Threshold Aero, who positioned lights perfectly, and ensured we all got good pictures.

This was an excellent well organised event and thanks must go to the Threshold Team and the aircraft owners who allowed us to photograph their aircraft.

A few pictures for those who could not attend.
