HAB Air-to-Air

Post by Jetnoise »

Someone earlier said that it was rare to see air-to-air shots of Hot Air Balloons, so I thought that I would share these with you from a trip to Luxor, Egypt in 2008. I do not know how many of these are still flying as the tourist industry in Luxor has been all but destroyed by the recent political and religious events, but in 2008 it was not uncommon to see 20+ balloons launch at day-break each day for flights over the temples and valley of the kings.

I hope that these were of interest to some.

Something a bit 'different'. Waiting for someone to be concerned that the background isn't blurred on these .......

Very interesting and very different. I love those background shots that show the lush green turning into sandy desert. That really gives it all a very exotic flair, as in.. "This clearly wasn't shot over France" :)

I think some further post processing to reduce noise and give the colours some more "umph" may go a long way too.

Thanks Rich & Erik,

I don't want to over-process these as, when I tried some noise reduction, I lost detail in the crops and sand. The colours are muted and misty because that is what it was like. Don't forget - these were taken between 05:30 and 06:30 just as the sun started to rise at ISO800 on an old Canon EOS350D, so the quality was never going to be high :-)

Cheers,
Ralph

I like these a lot Ralph, they arent cropped too closely so portray the landscape too, and I think the processing is spot on as they convey that pre-sunrise light
If you like these pics there are more utterly brilliant shots at https://www.flickr.com/photos/131094099@N08/albums

Thanks Zigzag - I too am not a fan of close crops (unless for artistic effect) - side on, 2mm from nose and 2 mm from tail shots do nothing for me.
Here is another shot showing the number of beds on the roofs of the villages...

I love this set, definitely something different. As has been said, the background really shows this was taken outside Europe.

Lots of content in an Egyptian context.
There's nothing quite like a HAB for style and slow grace while flying, thanks for letting us see your photos.
