Lightning without a storm - Lakenheath April 2017

Post by boff180 »

Evening guys,

Those that have been following another thread will know that back in April on behalf of UKAR I attended a photo-call for the F-35A deployment.

Unfortunately for a variety of reasons, the photo-call was very short (drove out the main gate at 1030hrs), all images were vetted and there were no interviews or briefings allowed. In short, it meant there wasn't anything substantive to write about that wasn't a repeat of what was written elsewhere.

I had been holding back the images in case there was another article this year that they could be used for but with the year almost over, it's probably best to post them now.

I've split them into two parts, shots taken inside (every single F-35 shot taken inside was cleared for publication by 34thFS personnel before we even boarded the bus to go back to the car park) and outside.

Andy

First three shots are awesome. F-35 is especially hateful photographed alongside F-15s.

Some nice work there!

I might be in the minority here, but the F-35 is growing on me a little bit. (not that much though).

First couple are belters, matey.

To be fair, I do love the razor-sharp lines on stealth aircraft, and the way they so clearly divide the light. Still fugly, though.

Lovely shots Andy, nice to see.

Just out of idle curiosity, what sort of shots weren't allowed to see the light of day ? I assume 'face' shots of personnel and perhaps buildings ?

Nice st of pics, though I too question the point of the 35 as it seems only capable of carriage of you lunch box internally, so no long range tanks or external extra stores for sustained attack profiles. I have never been keen on buying it and still feel its over priced

You mean like this?

Image

Six GBU-12s, two AIM-120s and two AIM-9Xs deems pretty impressive for a "sustained" attack profile to me.
