Are the RAF launching a full complement of displays/demonstrations in 2018? Or will their commitment be similar to 2017. Apart from the flypast on Friday. Does anyone have anymore information on this?

Well in answer to that, the Su27s, were all of the above (as they were rumoured, seen by a reliable source from the display committee and confirmed by DBH) and the tanker was none of the above, as the Flankers didn't need one, it wasn't talked about and it never turned up.

I sense the froth as you typed all that out. Fair enough though

I note from the RAF 100 blurb that the official flypast and parade will now take place on the 11 July rather than the 1 April over Laaarndan. Given as that's the "first" day of RIAT could the formation(s) provide a very welcome addition to the arrivals activities - after all Brize is the traditional breaking up point of QBF formations... I wonder if the Friday RIAT flypast will merely be a repeat of Tuesday's? Either way it's going to be very busy down South in July...

Did the build up to the 2008 show start early or were the updates different for the show then?

I think they were every three weeks back then. Also, it were just additions to the list of participants, no press releases or things like that.

Does anyone think the updates are likely to start before or after Christmas?

Tomorrow, Tom will check with DBH's IT department if it can put an update online during Christmas. Wondering how many UKARians will keep refreshing the aircraft participation page of airtattoo.com for the complete 48 hours that Chrismas will last.

DBH confirmed The Thunderbirds on 9th December last year. So a pre-Christmas update is possible.

Have to admit RIAT 2018 was dreamt about the other night and 2 things that were participating were the Brazilian Smoke Squadron and a Malaysian Air force Transport plane (couldn't remember type)

Yup RCAF F-18 confirmed.

No USAF solo displays are coming.
No USMC solo displays are coming.
No USAF/USN/RCAF teams are coming.

The Heritage Flight dates were not announced.
The USN solo display dates were not announced.

That's a pity. I was hoping to see a F-22 or F-15 display. Looking forward to the Canadian F-18 as I have not seen it before.

I still don't know about that...the F-22 schedule appears to have a really sparse July, as does the F-16, the A10 (although their august is even more sparse),

It's a nice start be interesting to see what support comes with it.
Do they send a spare & was it painted in the same colours in 2008?

Even if we get nothing from the ACC, a flying B1/B52 would make up for that!

Yes, and no.

They generally send a spare. But it's grey, maybe with a special tail, and they all have the super awesome false canopy on the bottom ;-)
