All Our Yesteryears - 1985 Part 1.

Post by King Cobra »

Started scanning again. My filing system is a bit random and with both slides and negatives to go through, images will appear in no particular year order. Here we go.

St. Mawgan show 7-8-1985. Scans of the slides I took but I've negs of the event too, which I will scan when I unearth them.

I must have been almost standing next to you when those Buccs taxied in as I have some very similar shots!

I remember that year at St Mawgan, the main hardstanding seems to have been coated with a brown 'wash' - you can see it in some of your pics.

Great pics & happy memories

My favourite would have to be that 41 Sqn Jag with the massive Recce pod!

My abiding memory of that show was the poxy weather. A number of tasty exhibits tried and failed to get in because the cloud base was so low. The display by XL426 was worth waiting for though. One of the best Vulcan displays I have ever seen.

What's the original film stock and how are you scanning them?

Nice to see these.

Pick for me is No 17 - rare to see Phantom and Buccaneer side-by-side.

I was at St Mawgan 1985 and remember the Buccaneer 4 ship arriving.

Thanks for posting these

E6 slide film - Kodak, Fuji and Barfen. I bought that in bulk when I was dabbling in home processing. Left something to be desired compared to others.
Scanned on an Epson 4870 flatbed.

Yes - was that the year that a number of French exotica were due in on the day - I'm thinking Mirage IVs & F8 Crusaders etc but 20kt fog kept them at bay. Come the early evening, the front passed through and weather cleared. Or was that 84?

I do miss St Mawgan airshows - the last I attended was 1991 which was a superb show (GW1 airshow). Would never have thought at that time the RAF would move out and is now only known as 'Newquay Airport'. It's still St Mawgan to me though.

1985. The F8s tried but failed to get in so all we got was the sound. The sun finally arrived well into the afternoon and we had the bonus of the "Arctic Fox" Orion arriving in gorgeous light before boarding our much delayed DC-3 back to Stansted.
