Airworthy 1/3 scale B-17

Post by Dan O'Hagan »

Probably the most bizarre homebuild warbird you'll ever see. It has flown, there's some very poor quality video on the site.

Landing looks a little hairy. And fast!

Interesting...looks rather like a horrible accident waiting to happen though.

Well at least they've made something of which there are no original ones left. Oh, maybe not? Utterly bizarre :dunno: . Must be one of the smallest four engine aircraft of all time. :joystick:

I have to agree with Mike, it looks like a death trap to me.

Engine failure is well mitigated though

Forget the actual 'aircraft' for a minute, read the reaction to the negative comments on the Facebook page! :lmao: :lmao:

Why not,
For the last 50 years if you want a small spam can you get the same looking aircraft today as you did 50 years ago.
Cessna or pipers look the the same today as they did when first produced.
Why not build and fly something different.
Nothing different from building a Cessna 172 then building a spitfire, just the engine plant.regarding the amount of materials and construction its only the shape of the end product.

If you was given 2 tonne of aluminium you could form it into a cessna or a spitfire.
Its in the hands of the sculpture what you do with it.

Guess the owner thought why fly around looking like everyone else. Ive got all this material so will build the normal looking spam can, or does it have to look like the norm.

The last time I saw moderation like that FB page was when I signed up to RAWK (Liverpool FC forum) to answer some of their observations about my team.

Chances are I'm wrong, but hasn't something similar ( scaled-down manned replicas ) been done for feature films in the past ?

First off i love this thing and really hope the builder can drop the landing speed a wee bit.

Thing is, there is a good reason those spam cans have been around for 55-65 years with even older engine designs is that they are damn good at what they do. It might just be the old classic in me but i think the there are only 2 or 3 modern homebuilts that look better than an Archer that only resembles a Cherokee 140 from the rear cabin bulkhead back. Having seen a Warrior rip a wing off and the guys walk away also kinda keep me in the Cherokee camp.

If i could form something from the equivalent of 2t of aluminium, i would redesign a Cessna 152 with a bigger cabin and an IO-320 in it, build a second one then use the remains to build an Archer.
Arabest,
Geoff.
52 in a year! We must be certifiable!
