Great early visitor numbers this morning, with many people calling in after straying over from the Scampton Airshow – also good volunteer turnout for the NAM open cockpit offer today on:

Hastings
Shackleton
Varsity
Vulcan
Canberra B(I)8

More open cockpit information in here – small additional charge & some restrictions apply on the Vulcan!

Anyone in the Notts / Lincs area this weekend for the now cancelled Lincs Lancaster Association Members Day – we'd just like to confirm that we’re open on both Sat & Sun, 10am to 5pm (last admission 4pm); and are happy to welcome anyone for a visit!

Thanks Brian, it certainly is excellent news - plus slightly surprising (we did not expect the decision for a couple of weeks!)

We're already starting to try and get things in place to order the units etc.

I guess you have asked the SWHF about this:

Preliminary cleaning and detailed survey work is now underway on the Viggen; ideas on sourcing matt paints to matched colour references would be helpful.

We have lots of feedback from various museums & individuals in Sweden; this has included the paint reference numbers/specs - the current issue is sourcing matt paint in the UK to match those references for the 'splinter' paint scheme. Under the terms of its End-User Certificate (import documentation from 2006) the aircraft has to retain its original/current colour scheme.

Are you not more likely to source it in Sweden?

Possibly, but there are import issues regarding paints/chemicals - local equivalents much easier to source; plus we're not sure whether they're currently in production. We can source [mixed specifically] gloss equivalents quite easily, it's the matt finish that seems to be the current challenge!

It has been decided that due to the very poor weather forecast the museum will not be open on Sunday 10th December 2017– further info in here!

Further details will be posted in the same part of the museum website as and when the situation for next week also becomes clearer.

We're not quite sure Brian, the forecast doesn't look too good for Monday either - we had a busy day today despite the bitterly cold wind keeping the temperature below freezing all day. However the snow predicted for tomorrow meant that it was felt best to announce the closure early and thereby stop everyone having to travel in difficult conditions.

We aim to try and keep across events tomorrow!

Based on the Newark reports from early this evening I think that you would need to bring your own snow - the real concern is still likely to be the ice!

Definitely an early morning check here in Nottinghamshire - hopefully it won't be quite as cold as it was on Saturday.
