Riga Aviation Museum

It was raining, which was a shame, but this museum was a fantastic visit, some real gems, really worth going to see. Nearly a full collection of MiGs. I didn't get a shot on my camera, sadly, but among the Mi-6s, Mi-24 Hind As, Su-7s, MiG-25s, there's even a T-10 nose section. Some bizarre finds but a real paradise for Soviet stuff. A Minino, if you will (unjustifiably proud of that pun).

Right next to the airport so you can pay it a visit if you're flying in or out, but it's only 20 minutes outside of town by bus otherwise.

Great set, what a collection that is! I especially like the close ups, really nicely composed.

#23 would be my pick of the bunch, thanks for sharing

Nice one Sam, love all the different angles. I hear Riga is an interesting city, so might make some plans to go visit. Foxbat is a favourite.

Your pun, though truly awful, is exactly the sort of thing I come out with, to the despair of those who know me......
Like you, I am a wit with a capital T.......ok, maybe a half-wit.

Nice set Sam - shame about the weather, would have looked a lot better if there was snow on the ground!

They've done a very good job of making the place look like a dodgy scrapyard though - all those airframes crying out to be under cover :-(

Well worth the 7 euros entry fee. Just be warned the single old guy who runs it doesn't speak any English!

Nice, you can't help but be fascinated by ex Warpac stuff, the grottier the better in some instances. You've got a midget rather than Fagot, a Brewer rather than Firebar (glazed bomber/recon nose) and the silver Su-7 looks a 2 seater so a Moujik.

I refuse to use those false M designations! They belong in the past! But for that matter, there were a couple of "Mongols" there too. There was also a MiG-21SMT, a rather stubby and confusing looking machine. As for the Brewer, yes I took a gamble on that one :p

He speaks very good German though, and even with my basic few words and a small extra donation he wasn’t expecting (3 euro’s) I got access to everywhere behind the ropes, underneath, and even in a couple of helo’s too. Alas not to the backfire though

I was also allowed to I've a couple of stairs to suit my wants for an elevated view down on certain aircraft.
The guy was fantastic and couldn’t help enough. Treat him nicely if you go and visit.

You got mugged off mate, I did all that for free! In fact at the end, he came over interested in my cameras, so I showed him a few "Kris Kris Tofferson!" on the back screen. He then took my to his private shed and showed me a few old aircraft cameras including one off a Tu-16. There was also an Il-76 simulator from 1985
