VC10 Bruntingthorpe - First Flight 50th Anniversary Event

Post by ZD241_VC10 »

Evening all,

This was announced a couple of days ago, but in case you missed it the VC10 Preservation Group are pleased announce they will be holding an event on 25th Feb 2018 at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of our VC10, G-ASGM (now ZD241). The day will give guests the opportunity to join us for tea/coffee and brunch before learning about our VC10 in the comfort of the Control Tower and then having the opportunity to visit and photograph the ZD241 and experience a 4-engine ground run at close hand, both inside and outside the aircraft.

Admission will be by ticket only (these are available from the shop on our website). Tickets are priced at £25 and include tea/coffee and a bacon roll on arrival before visiting the aircraft. It is hoped that access to ZA147 will also be possible, but this can not be guaranteed.

Excellent Minnie; have you booked tickets yet?

This is the first independent event we've run solely amongst our volunteer team. In the past we've mainly collaborated with the other Bruntingthorpe teams and others such as Timeline. This will be the first event fully focussing on the VC10 and aiming to give our visitors the chance to get up "close and personal" - not just for photos, but also to see it all happen - more so than we can when we run the jet on the CWJ Events. Guests will be hosted escorted to allow this "up close" access by knowledgable team members (expected to be mixture of our - unemployed for a ground run - aircrew and some of our civilian volunteers).

For those who have fond memories of travelling to Cyprus on the shiny 10 Sqn jets or later in their grey incarnations, there may be Halloumi to go with the bacon rolls.

My dad was in shiny 10 but a bit earlier on Canberras (can anybody tell me why it is 'shiny' 10 - I know I have asked a few times but have never managed to find out)

People seem to think it relates to the nice Transport Command painted VC10s, but it appears to date from before WWII ("Shiny 10" Sqn of 4 Gp Bomber Command).

Thank you - I knew it predated the VC10's  my dad knew it as shiny 10 in 56ish and looks like it went back even further
