On a trip through California in 2000, I made an effort to get into Edwards AFB to see the AF Flight Test Centre. In those days, you had to contact them in advance and tell them on which date you wanted to visit. It was all pretty straightforward apart from planning your trip to arrive at the base on a certain day. When you got to the gate at the base, they let you drive to the museum unescorted. After everything that has happened in subsequent years, I would imagine that it is a lot more difficult to visit these days. Anyway, these pictures are possibly a bit different.

Here are a few more pictures from the same visit. A surprising addition to the collection was the Meteor.

It is a lot more difficult these days, you have to apply for a place on the monthly coach tour which you get on at the gate. Sadly you can't take cameras or phones so sadly I don't have any pics from my visit last month.
Well worth it if you get the chance.
