Barton Airbase - or so it seemed!

Post by cg_341 »

Managed a quick dash up to Barton earlier today, and was rewarded with two RAF Chinooks, a Navy Wildcat, and an AAC Dauphin just transiting the zone. Sadly had to leave prior to the two Apaches arriving.

Not bad for a quiet little GA airfield I guess

'Ultimate1' arriving with 'Titan27' transiting to the north:

'Ultimate2' departing. I took more photos of this as there's not long left for the HC.5! Sadly it managed to follow a bit of cloud around:

'Skua 350' arrived, set down, and then departed in to the circuit before returning for a cup of tea and a bacon butty:

Very nice, have all British military helicopters got your name written on them these days?

When are they planning to dispense with the fat Chinooks? They can't have seen too much service as they had loads of issues when we first had them?

The so called 'fat Chinooks' are now in full squadron service and have been for several years. They are not operating with whatever problematic equipment they were originally going to have and, apart from the fat tanks and different nose (I know someone will pick me up on detail!), they are pretty much standard.

Very nice set.
What's happening to the Chinook Mk5s, are they being retired already?

Very nice. Like the first shot of the HC5. I quite like the fat tanks on them.

Shame they're so shy. I think I've only ever seen one, and certainly photographed none.

Decent haul for the day. I like the first shot of the HC.5.
