Abingdon Air & Country Show 6 May 2018

Post by Oldtower »

Good morning - well planning has been ongoing earlier than normal since July 2017. The new layout together with the issues from 2017 have all been ironed out and sorted for 2018.
One of the themes naturally will be our own RAF 100th anniversary celebration so hoping to achieve an allround small Air & Ground attractions to reflect that.

However, I can confirm our first two demonstrations are: Richard Goodwin in his Muscle Pitts, and the locally based Hawkwalk Falconry.

Our website (http://www.abingdonairandcountry.co.uk) has been totally revised / revamped very kindly by Chris Globe of threshold.aero and will be available for viewing during 1st October onwards.

To help us, we are urging potential public to buy tickets online too to save yourself some money once they are online.

We look forward to seeing you all again on 6th May 2018.

I will post another update on or around 1st December, however to let those who are interested, that our online tickets (Ticketline) will be online from our website from 1st December. Please also note the advance ticket holders have a separate gate for entry / exit this time and the show is like in 2017 - on the eastern side (Hangar side) as this now is the only way to stage the show safely.

A steady flow of attractions are booking in, to add to the above listing, including for the aircraft enthusiasts a Portugese AF coloured Chipmunk, and the return of one of Martin Bakers Meteors for static display (unsure which one so will be a surprise to us when it pitches up all being well)..

Ok, with approximately 6 weeks to go, we are now starting to finalise aspects of the show. Its been hard going this year but, not long to go. The prospective RAF and RNHF support is still ongoing but should be hearing more news from the end of March, much later than normal.
Neil has no ideas as to exactly what from the services, however RAF Benson has made it known no rotary support this year, despite frequent useage of the airfield by both Puma & Chinook due to Ops and essential training requirements with the remaining frames!

Flying (& on Static Display) as at 21/3/18.:

BAC Strikemaster
PBY-5A Catalina
Chipmunk
Great War DisplayTeam
Muscle Pitts
T67 Firefly
Spitfire (two seater) & Buchon pair (Dogfight / formation)

Was hoping to see a second attempt from the Boomerang, is it still about? or is one that won't come back?

The base and Airfield (Training Grounds) are due to be closed in 2029, a way off yet, but the local Vale has submitted a plan to build on it (substancially more than they first aired!! - much to the disgust of many locals as the current infrastructure around Abingdon as a whole cannot now cope!), however that's yet to be approved and in changing times who knows.

As far as the show is concerned, just make each one we stage count if you attend it, as financially its getting more and more expensive for one, but we are still here, 19 years after the very first show and more yet to follow in the near future.

Not that it counts for much but you can rely on three entries from me.

Quick Question - for advance ticket holders do they exit via Gate B and does this make for an easier exit from the show.

Very good :
Having said that, that wasn't my question. I was asking if the Gate B traffic flow was quicker on entrance and exit. Which would be my only reason for buying in advance

If a ticket is required, that's the same as bought in advance! Oldtower, hope the people on both gates are a bit more snappy with admissions than last year's dreamers.
