Seoul Incheon March 2017

After Beijing I flew to Seoul Incheon for a short visit. The airport has three parallel runways, two to the east of the terminal complex and one to the west. With the wind from the north, landings are split between 34 (to the west of the terminal) and 33R (to the east of the terminal). I based myself on the approach to 33R as this is closer to where the hotels are, and most of the cargo flights land here.

Although Korean Air and Asiana dominate the movements, there is plenty of traffic from the other Korean carriers such as Jeju, Jin Air, T'Way, Eastar Jet; and there is a steady stream of aircraft from China and other regional carriers, as well as plenty of cargo flights. Not a single turboprop seen and only one ERJ 190 to break the Airbus / Boeing stranglehold.

The land under the approach has been turned in to a park which is used by people for jogging, cycling and walking. There are shelters to keep off the sun and rain, public toilets and even a tower from which you get a view across to runways 33L and 33R (although heat haze and the fact that it is directly under the approach mean that it is of limited use for photography).

Nonetheless, being directly underneath a landing jet gives a different angle and is an experience!
