RAF Cosford Air Show 2018 *updated Show day*

Post by Wes_Howes »

Well I started my Cosford Airshow weekend today with a somewhat quiet day on the railway platform. Great to see the static international participants arrive among others. Initially I was disappointed (but not surprised) aircraft were arriving on runway 06 but it meant most of the aircraft taxied past.

Well, I was one of the ones who took a punt on the Saturday morning shoot and I'm rather glad I did. It didn't get off to a great start with gates being locked and overcast conditions but about 6.45am the Sun made it's appearance and all was well  Thanks to the everyone involved in running the event

Shawbury opened at 11 local, that's normally at least an hour before any planned movements

Disappointing to see the Defiant under cover as I was looking forward to seeing it in the open, but understandable given its uniqueness.

If the weather is good some of them may be brought forward but the defiant is least likely due to its weight

Must admit they look a lot better than I'd imagined, but you waited for the sun to come out then shot the Whirlwind on the shaded side??...

Right, sorry gentlemen, just got back from Shawbury so I'll answer some questions

Living in Telford does have a few advantages, not many but a few.

Yeah, I was the last one up them, a few people had gone up before me and I was shouted at to get down

Shaded side due to a couple of fire hydrant signs interfering with the lit side, meh, can't have everything.

Good effort, mate.

Isn't that one of France's brand-spanking new C-130Js? Veeery rare. May even be the type's first visit to the UK in French colours!

Well, finally rounding off the weekend with the show day itself and what a great show it was. Well done to all the airshow organisers and volunteers  Weather was great which of course meant difficult for photos but I'm pretty happy with my record of what was the best Cosford Airshow I've attended.
