The decals for the 500,000 hours were provided by Eurofighter.

Looks like a very similar design to IX Sqn - Tornado silhouette underneath the squadron emblem, same cheat-line along the spine too.

Exactly the same style as the IX Sqn jet. Hopefully a camo one to follow?

Edit - An airframe that's been flying in recent weeks too. Don't think IX's jet has flown since it was painted?

What's that one doing there? I thought they were hoping to get it ground running at Bruntingthorpe?

They have hangars at saints and therefore was seen best for preservation and the plan is still to make it run at saints.

Glad as i am to see 2 new repaints on the mighty Tonka, Gold stars and Bats, are 2 that don't do it for me.

Maybe they should have gone for ....... wait for it........ Desert Storm Pink again, and the green/grey camo instead? and celebrate bats /goldstars with something different than has been seen recently on a pair of Tonkas

when i said that they were doing 4 all those months ago (around 9 months if i remember correctly) it was intimated that 1 would be camo, but as the Tonka flew in Combat, maybe put some markings back on some, rather than be ashamed of it...... Everyone else shows them, why should we be afraid to?

It would also be nice if the select few didn't get preferential treatment regarding the flights of these, and that the RAF decide, like the Belgians and dutch to announce certain flights publicly so we can all say goodbye and photograph these beasts. Cad, S.M., Lune Gorge, Kirkstone etc.

Just my tuppenth worth. lol
cheers

For some reason, GJD have relocated a number of their airframes from Bruntingthorpe to St Athan....maybe they're clearing space for a Vulcan...

It's still being restored to ground running condition, just that they're doing it at St Athan not Brunty.

Interesting that the facebook post makes mention of them ( and HAS ) setting up a museum at St Athan.

Thanks Brevet, will there be the opportunity there of seeing them run as at Brunty in the future do you think?

The problems could be the number of airliners scattered around awaiting maintenance/dismantling, the fact that Aston Martin have just moved there, plus there's still a military presence in the form of the RAF and the SFSG.
At the moment it's still under joint MOD-civil ownership & it's still operated under MAA control, but early next year it's being solely run as a civilian operation & will switch to being under the remit of the CAA.

Whether that would mean they'd be allowed to do Brunty-style events is another matter.....possibly engine runs but no fast-taxy runs?

Well hopefully its a bit more exciting when its finished. Give it some oomph, its meant to be a retirement scheme. Either give it full colour squadron markings of either 9 or 31 squadron and make it full retro or jazz up those fonts and badges so it stands out, rather than looking like an unmarked camo Tornado. Maybe I'm being too hasty, but at the moment it could be better. :dunno:

Looks OK to me - I'll take unmarked camo over unmarked grey any day of the week. It'll need a black radome though...

Anyone know which jet it is they painted up?
