There was one with Colin and Ewan McGregor a few months ago, but I’m not sure it’s the same one.

Well so far in 25 minutes it's got right up to 1969. Be interesting to see how much time is dedicated to the current RAF as everything else has been very quickly covered. But it has jumped about a bit.

Very disappointed in a programme which could have been really interesting.

Update: So apparently nothing at all happened between 1969 and 1991. Entire 100 year history covered in 45 minutes including breaks.

Not a great programme.

Almost seems as if they got together a load of clips then put a (very poor) script to it. Talking about the V Force - mention Valiant and then Vulcan, but no mention of the Victor. No mention of Berlin Air Lift, Falklands, Cold War intercepts of Bears etc. over the north sea, its role today in dealing with hijacked aircraft etc. CRAP! :wall:

Pretty poor programme really, nothing covered in any great depth and all a bit rushed.

Thought it was quite good, but a bit odd that the Falklands was left out too.

It was awful. Didn't mention the colonial policing of the twenties, the Berlin Airlift, the Kenyan and Malayan operations of the fifties, Falklands, Belize. Brief thirty second mention of Indonesia. Mentioned aircraft in a strange order (Biff before Pup, Mosquito before Battle of Britain).

I've got to agree with Downes0106. Really just a selection of randomly selected clips bunged together in a rough chronological order. Also a very strange segment on the roles of women in the RAF. Was it necessary? Surely a brief interview with one or two would suffice without drawing attention to the fact that the RAF employ female pilots. So what? It's 2018 for God's sake!

Thought it was quite good.

It was refreshing from an RAF100 perspective for the aircraft and operations to take centre stage.

It was also good for them to mix both well known operations/aircraft with those that are perhaps less well known.

Where the show fell down was that they tried to cram far too much aviation history into just one hour. That meant the show flicked from aircraft to aircraft which left it very disjointed and, as a result, certain key pieces of RAF history were missed.

It was a show that was crying out for a multi-part series to do it justice, more up to date footage would have helped too... the most recent being the F-35 at RIAT 2016. As with everything RAF100 however the decision to cram everything into a single episode stank of “that’ll do”.

There is a version of this available on sky ( rent or buy ) which is 1hr 39 mins long, i'm guessing it's the same programme having not seen it, so would imagine the difference in running times to the channel 5 show would explain the dis jointed look .

Mmm, not quite what I was hoping for..So many gaps! With no disrespect to anyone I think it was aimed more at your 'casual' viewer rather than a dedicated
aviation minded audience? You certainly can't cover a 100 year history in 48 minutes....And yes Mr Portillos programme next (as have all of them have been so far) was much better. I thought the public were still allowed on that Russian sub?

It really did seem to be a load of news archive spliced together with a hastily written piece of narration added.

However, on the plus side, it did show footage of actual aircraft and wasn't based largely around a 'celebrity' who once had a friend or relative who was in the RAF at some point, getting a joyride in a Spitfire, Hawk or Typhoon.
