How?

I can't get my head around it.

How are we so unrobust that a mere "sighting" suspends all departures from one of the world's largest airports?

here we go again...Looks like arrivals continuing as normal but that wont last too long if the stands are occupied by delayed departures. I think it is time for all UK airports to invest in anti drone technology to stop this ridiculous situation.

There's a video on twitter of something hovering over the airfield with positional lights on, far too small to be manned.

Just seen on the news that the drone incident at Heathrow tonight was genuine.

Security services reacting saw it... and a BBC drone cameraman nearby also saw the object and clearly identified it as a drone hovering at 300ft above/near the runway.

I find it hard to believe even an experienced drone user can determine height and distance of a drone in day light, let only at night. One reporter stated he watched whilst driving along the M25.

I watched a strange, stationary, red / green light couple of nights ago. It was just above the tree line, it was dark and stars were visible, watched for 5mins or so with no movement.
Checked FR24 and it was the Police helicopter approx 5miles away at 1500". Could easily have been reported as half a mile at 150"

Of course it was genuine, do you really think we’d stop departing for a random drone report? We probably get drone reports at least once a day.

Believe me, this was genuine; one also shouldn’t assume all the reports that are received to illicit such a reaction are made public.
