We are just off the A30 between Cricket St Thomas and Crewkerne The postcode is TA18 8QY but don’t trust your Satnav, you will end up at Hill Dairy Farm!

If you are coming from Chard you will pass Cricket St Thomas on the right, the Cricket St Thomas Golf Club on the left and The Windwhistle Inn on the left. As you continue to climb up the hill you will see a large lay-by on the left and immediately after that a brown sign for “Chard Equestrian Centre” – turn right.

If you are coming from Crewkerne you will pass through Maincombe and Roundham before climbing up the hill through a wooded area. Towards the end of the wooded area, look out for the brown sign for “Chard Equestrian Centre” – turn left.

Approximately 0.25 miles along that road turn right into Chard Equestrian. The gate has a sensor, so drive slowly up to the gate and it will open automatically. We are in the large brown hangar at the bottom of the hill and the double entrance doors are towards the left hand end of the hangar as you look at it.

That sounds like an excellent event, and one which bucks the depressing recent trend in the hobby by charging a very reasonable admission fee.

A couple of questions if you don't mind, will the Wasp and/or Whirlwind intended to be flown on the day? And are any other visiting helicopters expected, as per previous events?

Seamus,

Unfortunately, the Whirlwind is currently undergoing long term and in-depth maintenance. She is in an advanced stage of strip down so will definitely not be flying.

I am waiting to hear back from Terry whether he intends to fly the Wasp and regarding any visiting Helicopters. I'll update you ASAP.

Cheers!

Seamus,

I have heard back from Terry and his intention is to have the Wasp on static display only.

I'll keep you updated regarding visiting Helicopters.

Cheers!

A huge thank you to all the enthusiasts, friends and supporters who battled the snow to join us at our Open Day on Saturday. We hope that you all enjoyed the day and look forward to welcoming you back to Historic Helicopters. Watch this space for updates regarding future events.

AMB - It wasn't that bad! Kev from The Gazelle Squadron made it in the "Sharks" Gazelle following a monumental effort. The visiting JetRanger made it from the Weymouth area. Also, quite a few visitors enjoyed pleasure flights in our very own JetRanger.

On behalf of Historic Helicopters and the Westland Wasp Historic Flight – thank you all for your continued support!

Whirlwind HAR10 XJ729

Wessex HU5 XT771
Sea King HAR3 XZ597
Sea King HC4 ZF122

Alas I am in Wiltshire and completely snowed in on the day.
Please reschedule later in the year and get even more helicopters especially that Hiller 12E based near Winchester in US Army colours! :worship:

AMB - All of the aircraft on your list, except the Wasp, are permanently based here.

The Wasp is spending the winter with us and she was included in the guided tour of the hangar where Whirlwind XJ729, Wessex XT761 and Sea King XZ597 were available for inspection.

The small hangar where Wessex XT771 and Sea King ZF122 are stored could not be accessed due to the heavy snowfall.

I have been trying to contact the owner of that Hiller but have not received a reply.

Cheers!

Pah! Poor effort.

You could have at least got six or seven burly types to heave them above their heads and run around the field fast enough to make the rotors spin, make it look authentic flight type shots. At least that would have satisfied those that didn't go!

Must try harder next time. :handbag:
