It looks like we wont see the mig-29 or su-22 this year. Most polish pilots are scared to fly the mig-29 and su-22 due to the ejection seats which are used on both aircraft. Last year when a mig-29 crashed the pilot ejected but his parachute failed to open resulting in his death, thats why last year the su-22 got cancelled with the fleet now mostly unserviceable. The 2019 mig-29 demo pilot was the one involved in the crash last month and he is still in hospital so the chances of a demo coming are very unlikely. The Polish prime minister is also looking for a replacment by 2020 for both planes so we might never see a polish mig-29 or su-22 fly at RIAT again.

Su-22 will normally perform this season, Fitters Demo Team has been already confirmed for airshow in Gdynia in July, there will be also airshow in Świdwin, Fitters' homebase, in June. Their first display since last year's Mig's crash may be in Iława next month but it's not confirmed yet. Migs are still grounded, but Xtreme Sky Force (Fulcrum + Artur Kielak's XA-41 display team) has recently been announced for airshow in Gdynia in July, so Migs may come back soon.

Hope a SU22 makes it never seen on fly but safety has to come first!

Can I ask your source for this info?

As others have said, the SU-22 seems like it will be displaying this year.

I'd certainly love to see one in the air above Gloucestershire this July

My thoughts exactly! Bobby, do you know that the pilots are scared or is that just putting 2+2 together and getting 5?

The fitter pair were my favourite highlight in recent years. Wasn't the best display but my god them touch and go's. Went right through your chest! :music:

The sources are in Polish but you can use a translator website.
pilots are scared about flying mig-29 : https://www.rpo.gov.pl/pl/content/piloc ... ie-RPO-MON , https://portal-mundurowy.pl/index.php?o ... i-na-ziemi , http://www.tokfm.pl/Tokfm/7,103085,2452 ... wisku.html
and source that su-22 have same ejection seats as mig-29 https://www.newsweek.pl/polska/awaryjne ... ne/cens7j3. After the crash last year, all ejection seats got removed from su-22 and mig-29's for inspection resulting in new ejection seats as all old ones had a piece of metal which was too strong for the explosives to break causing the parachute not to open. The su-22 was grounded from the 6th of June until September so it was cancelled for RIAT 2018

The su-22 is only confirmed for airshows in Poland with no actual demo. The mig-29 is still grounded due to engine problems which caused the recent crash. Looking at the polish air force demos, it looks like they have a team called 'skorpion' which flies 2 mil mi-24 helicopters so i would love to see them come this year

Aside from displays like the Spartan, Atlas & Apache I've normally only got eyes for fast jets, but I'd give anything to see a pair of Hinds this year!!

No translator needed to see the first article is from 2018. As Mr. Crusher has posted, things has changed since then. Also, Poland doesn't have special assigned demo pilots, as soon as they decide to display a Fulcrum somewhere, someone is appointed to work up a display for that event. (Source: Polish MiG 29 pilot that flew at one af the RNLAF shows on the official DVD.)

Playing Devil's advocate here, both 2018 articles are from December so they can barely be disregarded as old news. The rest seem to be from 2019 too.

The Polish Air Force abandoned the system you refer to (Volkel 2009 DVD, and you call a 2018 article outdated? :) ) years ago and have dedicated display pilots for the F-16 and Mig-29, two in the latter case actually. One comes from Minsk-Mazowiecki and does the pair display with an Sbach, the solo display pilot comes from Malbork. Source: Me meeting them at EAC.

Maybe they have dedicated crews for other displays too but I can't say that for certain.

2 things from those articles showing how out of date they are

UPDATE: On February 4, 2019, the RPO received the Defense Ministry's reply (from January 28) that MIG planes are safe

At the end of September, the Su-22 military aircraft resumed flights. MiG-29 flights were resumed at the beginning of November.

the mig-29 is still grounded after the crash last month due to engine problems. Also the articles might be from last year but it does not change the fact that pilots are scared to fly the mig-29 as 4 aircraft have crashed in the last few years, leading to speculations about the safety of these planes. The demo pilot is called kpt. Adrian Rojek and has been the demo pilot since 2014 and he was the pilot who was involved in the crash last month is in hospital. Bbefore the crash last month the mig-29 were so unervisable that for the quick alert group only one mig-29 was ready instead of 2 aircraft.
And now here is a source from 6/3/19 saying that pilots are STILL scared to fly the mig-29. https://fakty.tvn24.pl/ogladaj-online,6 ... 15896.html

Cpt Rojek retired 2 years ago... The pilot who was involved in the last crash is not a "first" demo pilot for Polish MiG-29.

Now we’re arguing about a demo that’s not even rumoured to be intending to come to RIAT?

Sorry...

The French A-400m demo would be cool, have they released dates yet? (Apologies if they have and I've missed it!)

I'm guessing ticket sales for the Friday must be slow, going by RIAT's latest post on their FB page:

Have you thought about visiting the Air Tattoo on the Friday?
We've listed our top 5 reasons why you need to visit the show on Friday here: https://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/visiting/air-tattoo-blog/n/2019/apr/12/5-reasons-you-need-to-visit-the-air-tattoo?utm_term=friday

Kpt. Rojek has been retired since two years... Pilot who was involved in the last crash was not "full-time demo pilot", I mean to be honest I remember only one his display, in Łask in 2015.

It doesn't matter if pilots are afraid of flying Migs and Su or not, the fact is Su-22 are flying at the moment and Migs are confirmed for airshow in July. There is even rumor that Migs may be ready for airshow in Iława in May, but I think it is a bit too optimistic vision.

[fb-post]http://www.facebook.com/lotniczailawa/posts/564716507356779[/fb-post]

"Mówi się także o udziale najgłośniejszych maszyn w arsenale Polskich Sił Powietrznych, takich jak Su-22 czy MiG-29."

"They say also about participation of the loudest aircraft of Polish Air Force, like Su-22 or MiG-29." (official fanpage of Lotnicza Majówka Iława airshow, post from last Thursday)

Sorry that I continue offtopic, just had to correct fake news about kpt. Rojek.

New post in the Nutters group has said the new patch has been designed, and the Su-27 will be present.
