Re: RIAT 2017 (Discussion & Participation Thread)

I've done RIAT once in 2009 and it was the worst Airshow experience of my life. I always said only an SU-27 would take me back there. Due to the late notice of their attendance I could only take Sunday off work and being the penny pinching freeloader I am I went to Totterdown for P&V. Sorry but ...

FS - Retro Flight Sim Games (PC)

I'm having a major clear out so thought I would put them on here first to see if there's any gamers on here into flight sim, particularly the retro stuff. I have the following for sale all in excellent condition most of them boxed, these are just the aircraft, sim and space fighter related games, al...

Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread

It's a sad end to the mighty Sea Vixen but I think it needs to be just that, an end, with dignity (so to speak). I for one cannot take yet another year of "we need your money" for an aircraft again. The Sea Vixen was a great aircraft to watch, the pilot flew her fantastically, I will alway...

Re: East Midlands Aeropark broken into.

Disgusting waste of oxygen. I agree with Alanko, seems rather pre-meditated with knowledge that there would be more than normal amounts of money in the safe after an open day, plus knowing there was a safe. I hope they have left behind some kind of trace so they are caught and have the book thrown a...

Ya know what, fair play to the chap, beats sitting at home on an XBox! I can't imagine his Mrs is very happy though, with the extreme cost of it all and the risks considering he has 2 kids at home. 500kgs doesn't sound like a massive weight, probably better off using wood, also depends what engine h...

Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread

Brevet, no idea about VTST but last year the Foxy Lady Facebook page was publishing times for practice displays at Yeovilton. I doubt it is anything to do with CAA regulations, more to the fact that the Vulcan was so popular, you'd get say 50 people turn up for the Sea Vixen but maybe 2,000 people f...

Re: TV Coverage of Airshows

I'm an enthusiast so not just a random member of the public as such but I subscribe to PlanesTV and I love watching the airshows they stream, it would be great to have them on TV. Another sport I watch which has all but vanished from TV is equestrianism, in the 80's and 90's when I was horse (and ai...

The Jag wears it better! Pretty bland effort compared to others and previous spcials but can't complain where airshows are a sea of 50 shades of grey!

That's a lovely addition! Nice bit of history on the Thunder & Lightnings page over what could have been, a shame neither happened but at least the aircraft has a home!

No updates at all. With the Fly Navy supporters day this weekend I highly doubt the Sea Vixen will be flying, there haven't even been any ground runs from what I've heard. As you say, only 2 weeks until Abingdon. An update would be nice as people have been donating, I'm not going to draw any compari...

Voted for the new French Rafale as that's a work of art and not just limited to the topside! 2013 for the Czech Tiger Gripen which appeared at Yeovilton, that was a stunner. Of course the BoB Typhoon was lovely and other favourites include "Tango" the F-16, Miss Demeanour, the Desert Tucan...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust

As Capercaillie says that ferry flight was under VERY different circumstances. It was 25 years ago, the aircraft was stored in a temperature and humidity controlled hangar, the aircraft had FI left over, the pilot was current and a BAe test pilot and probably various other things which make this ver...

Anyone got an up to date list of current and active classic jets in the UK? Not much I think is the answer! Someone said to me the other day "what classic jets from the UK do you think we'll see this year?", I struggled to get past the Sea Vixen to be honest! So, Sea Vixen, JP, Gnat, Stri...

All these rtf projects remind me of 1 thing, those magazines you buy such as "build the Titanic". At first you are really excited by it and it seems plausible and affordable at 99p for the first issue. Then the second issue is £1.99 and in 3 months time the issues are £9.99 each. You inves...

Father in the RAF, lived nextdoor to RAF Coningsby and had his own aircraft at Biggin Hill. It didn't start off well though! Until I was about 5 I used to cry and hide under the table when the Phantoms came over low and (I'm not getting into an argument about this again) 'sonic booms' really had me ...
