Re: RIAT 2013

DanH.......got it in one !! I could have understood if it was only going to be there a short while , but they left it ground-idling all day. And they couldn't even use the excuse about a lack of APUs !! Sure it was not the aircraft apu that was running in the tail? BA tend to leave that running a l...

Re: ET- 787 Fire at Heathrow!

Given it looks like the fire was intense enough to burn a hole in the top of the fuselage I dont think it could be considered a minor fire. In addition to all the questions about cause etc I wonder if the damage to the aircraft is such that it is beyond repair. Any experts on here that can give us a...

Re: 5 years ago today

I was working there - spent five days straight in wellington boots. My feet were in a dreadful state... Trench foot was rampant - it was like the Somme and I recall wandering into FRIAT and finding plastic ducks floating about... The mood amongst the volunteers was sombre... An awful weekend - and ...

Nice shots Gill and a lot more fruitful than the blank I had a few days ago. The 617 sqdn special going past the farmhouse is the pick for me.

Re: RIAT 2013 Participants

Mr Cable. Are these the L-29s that sat at Cumbernauld for ages or a different set? May be a bit off topic but not much else to discuss under attendance today.

Re: RIAT 2013

Just watched a new item on the 60th anniversary of the Korean war and the sacrafice from our troops in that conflcit. Would be nice if Korea could send something as a mark of respect ( Unlikely I know but just thinking while watching the BBC). My next door neighbour was a young National Service sol...

Re: 5 years ago today

I may well have been the only person that actually photographed anything at Fairford on one of the show days, then? Just walked the fence, photographed the static! The advantage of not buying a ticket, I suppose. Didn't bother with the Saturday, went down on the Sunday. @macc: You did Duxford, didn...

Re: What does RIAT 2013 need?

Andy your reading of RA2335 was the same as mine hence my concerns. Take it to stupid extremes and it would mean every spotter who gathered at the fence of a base where a practice was NOTAMed could / would need to be moved on. Seems to me like the RA needs a common sense interpretation added. Altern...

Re: What does RIAT 2013 need?

To DanO (I had to tell a member of permanent staff what a Typhoon looked like, for heaven's sake). Make no mistake, there are excellent people at DBH - Tom Gibbons cuts a most impressive figure as Deputy Director Air Ops, for example. . That is nothing. Went to the Services just south of Tebay last...

Re: What does RIAT 2013 need?

Kind of thinking we need to donate a few hard hats to the staff at DBH for next years FRIAT forum You are making the assumption that there will be FRIAT next year. I have a horrible feeling about that message that the FRIAT package for next year would not be announced until the show. I have this fe...

Re: 5 years ago today

2008 had a few plus points. Arrivals and departures plus the fly past for the Queen.

Saturday did Cosford and Sunday Hendon. Bumped into so many soaked spotters at both it was like being in FRIAT

So you prefered the wet soggy practice display in 08 to the full display in the glorious sun of 2010? Or are you extracting the micheal? Well , the OP's thread title is "exciting RIAT items....." Given the fact that 2008 was the first year it was displaying at RIAT , then yes. After seein...

Tough one German T-33 in 73 plus the French F-8 and P-2 numerous F-4s and 104s Austrian CH-53 in 74, F-14s in 76 plus my first time for the Frecce with their G-91s. EA-3 was nice as well. Aussie A-4s in 77 Venezuela Argentina, Aussie, Kiwi, Brazil and Israel C-130s in 79 Jordanian F-1 in 83 and SR-7...

Re: RIAT 2013

Well p***ed off that the Brazilian C-130 has gone but as Boff says not a surprise. Canadians lived up to my expectations...........again. Nice to see the Irish back and thank you Netherlands. Personally I would rather have had the P-38 but old planes break down so the B-25 is an ok swap. Seem to be ...

Nothing good to add i see I was going to add a little update later, waiting for the ECM to come out. This sort of comment puts me off. Re: RIAT 2013

All so predictable this year (without the Farnborough factor). Lots of 'moaning', and lots of people getting on their high horse trying to defend it. You could turn the clock back to 2011 and the mood on this forum was about the same! Just an idea, but would it be worth making RIAT an event that ru...

Re: RIAT 2013 Participants

Probably not. A lot of GA pilots pay their own way for things like fly ins. Commercial teams / display acts are more bound by finacial governance obligations so possibly not a straight swap. Fair enough. Do DBH approach them or do they ring up DBH and ask to be a part of the show? I can only speak ...

Re: RIAT 2013 Participants

How much were they wanting to show up for the static? I assume at least transit costs of fuel and hotels for 3 nights. Anyone know what they were looking for and how this compares with their display fee? I am sure if it they had offered to appear for no/ minimal fee on static it would have been nuts...
