Re: 'The face of things to come'

Off topic I know but it is about "things to come". How do people plan their day out at RIAT at the moment if they have an electric car, allowing for say a three hour journey there, a big queue getting in/out and same journey home? What happens when the vast majority of attendees have elect...

Very nice Beachy Head flypast by the Lancaster and Typhoon, a rare treat for the photographers up there.
Were they low enough to have the sea as the background, rather than the sky? If so, might give it a go tomorrow and hope the Typhoon is the black aircraft again.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Eastbourne 22

Seeing as I asked earlier for info re Beachy Head, it's only fair that I share how I got on up there on Sunday. The sun was out getting up there and also as I made my way home but, in between, just clag with a few drops of rain thrown in. As for photo opportunities, the Puma was a nearly moment, com...

Re: Eastbourne 22

Just had a very nice flypast of the Typhoon and Spitfire together at Beachy Head, plus the Lancaster flew in from that direction 😍 Saw the Typhoon and Spitfire from a distance. Initially they looked higher than Beachy Head, were they level or lower than you when they actually passed by and close en...

Re: Eastbourne 22

Stopped in at Shoreham today only one wingwalker in, miss the days when the apron would have the BBMF Chinook Catalina etc.. for the weekend. Agreed. Just looked at my pictures from Shoreham in 2006 and 2008 during Airbourne. 2006 had 2x Tucanos, 2x Harriers, Merlin and Belgian Sea King plus warbir...

Re: Eastbourne 22

No, it didn't make it :D I don't know why he told you that. It was due at 14:00 but went TEC. Ok thanks. Wonder if they have a fix or a replacement aircraft. Was going to Beachy Head tomorrow but with no F-16 and possibly no Chinook, that just leaves the Typhoon for me, which if coming from Southen...

Frequency in use today was 130.675.

The Red's support Juno was ZM 531.

So did the Chinook not make it then? Only ask as I managed to get there for the last 2 hours and asked a fella next to me, with a decent camera, if it had displayed yet and he said yes!

Re: Eastbourne 22

I tried Beachy Head in 2018 for the Belgian Army Augusta 109, which was ok, about two thirds of the frame filled at 400mm and about 100 feet below me. Other than that there were some good formation and singleton passes from the Reds but now they only have seven aircraft instead of nine and I have no...

Re: Best Lens advise

If you opt for the Canon 100-400, make sure it's the mark 2 version, ie twist to zoom, not the mark 1 push/pull version, as it's a much more modern lens. It might not have enough reach for flying shots but will be fine for take off and landings.

I reckon your Gazelle at Helitech, Redhill is ZB 673. Logged it there on 20/09/95, which was the day (or at least one of the days, if there was more than one) when all the foreign Lynx flew in. I photographed it at the Middle Wallop show the following year when it was coded "P" and the cam...

Normally I would say that it's Beachy Head or nothing for me but you have still got some nice shots there. I nearly went to BH on Sunday with my main target being the Chinook but I'm glad I didn't now having read your comments. Also I expect that it was very windy up there this year, it was bad enou...

Re: Did anyone go on the wheel?

[quote="harkins"] But the list of issues this year was pretty long. Ok, the social media stuff was rubbish but it didn't really have any impact on the event in the end. But surrounding Mig-21s with a dozen Range Rovers, positioning wheels, ice cream vans and all sort of other stuff around ...

Re Beachy Head. I was not there today but was listening on the box a few miles away. I certainly heard Beachy mentioned a few times, the Mustang, the Blades post display spring to mind but whether they were close enough for photos I don't know.

Re: Lakenheath/Mildenhall photography advice

Though true that Lakenheath's viewing area is backlit until mid/late afternoon, if it's a cloudy day, it can still be good for runway 24 departures if you walk down the lane a bit, as the background is trees, which provides some contrast in dull conditions. Also the aircraft are stationary for a sho...

Re: BBC Planespotting live....

To be fair to the Beeb, this series has to be seen within a wider context of a society and culture that has dumbed down hugely over the last 30/40 years or so. As others have pointed out , the likes of Raymond Baxter or James Burke have been replaced by more general, light weight celebs who have no...

Not sure about the whole Planespotting Live thing, just a vehicle for some cobbled together bits of aviation related stuff. Seeing the Queens Building at Heathrow took me back to my youth. I wonder how much it would cost to spend a day there if it were still going now? Lots I expect. It would have b...

Some nice jets there, always liked a mil/gov aircraft, probably because they tend not to be grey.

Re: Scanned slides.

This might be obvious to many but once you have got rid of your flecks and blotches, especially if it does take forever, remember to save a full size of the cleaned up slide before you go any further. That way, if you then adjust anything else and save it, then decide later that you could have done ...

I did go to Beachy Head. The Belgian A-109 was good from there on it's way back only and the RAs gave a nice singleton pass followed by pair soon after. And that was about it. I left after the Arrows but I saw the Typhoon arrive from the east and I expect it departed that way also. I didn't see wher...

Re: Eastbourne 2018

I used to make an annual pilgrimage to Beachy Head for eastbourne but post Shoreham its pointless as evertything is so distant now Yes, obviously flying over the sea below the secondary crowd is so dangerous but we've had that debate for the last two years so I won't start again. I'm tempted to giv...
