..If I remember rightly he'd set the altimeter wrongly and so completed the top of the loop at the right altitude, but unfortunately the ground beneath him was at the wrong altitude. I believe so. Sufficient altitude, insufficient height. As others have said, these things do happen where humans are...

Oh come on, there are airshows up and down the country throughout the summer months. I'm sure people consider them reduced in one way and another, but they're certainly not 'very rare'.

I think you would be surprised how many people now know about his story, and the reason behind the flypast today. I think so too - hard to imagine that any significant proportion of the crowd just turned up without having heard anything of the background. Of course some people didn't know the ins a...

Re: Red Arrows in 2019

Why? The aircraft will look the same as usual, the display will be exactly the same as usual ( even if they change the names of some of the elements to try and disguise that ) So it's not as if people will really miss anything, is it? Depends if you're appreciating the skills, the talent and the ef...

Re: Red Arrows Documentary Out In 2019

I think it's been a great series - excellent footage, a fantastic showcase of their flying skills and just generally a real insight into the different elements that come together to form the RAFAT. A credit to them and the RAF.

I wish they'd be a bit more creative with their nicknames though...

Re: Bruntingthorpe - driverless test site?

Could be a good move with the main runway resurfaced, with nearly 2 miles of motorway type of surface Simulation of a smart motorway. Is that what's happening? Based on the apparent need for planning permission, it sounds like a new area and new roads being developed? Personally, I hope it's not th...

I think it would be a pity if UKAR were to close down, and reading through the thread to date, that seems to be a common view The tone has suffered a bit from some people adopting a 'negative by default' position over the last few years, but the forum remains a useful place to discuss things and get...

Re: Jaguar returning to flight?

It was first mentioned by one of the marshalls at North Weald in the JetFest thread. I saw it with my own eyes at the weekend and other people have uploaded photos on Flickr, so its presence and its identity can be confirmed if you care to look. My question was whether the intention to return it to...

The FB post ( since removed ) was just made by the haulage company who delivered the airframe to its new location, wasn't it?

Well we certainly appear to have another event today where the aircraft has operated as expected and on cue.

That does rather fly in the face of those peddling the 'rotting hulk' storyline.

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I'd say a taxy back from one of the EGRs represents an extension of what they've previously done at these events, and that can only be a good thing. There are people on UKAR who spent most of the flying years dismissing everything they saw as 'sedate', 'lacklustre' and 'underwhelming' ( not to menti...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Just in case anybody on here is actually interested in what is happening with the aircraft, and not slagging off the management... 558 did two ground runs today, the second of which was followed by a slow taxi back up towards the fuel farm where it is parked. Surely the first step towards the volun...

I hope that the assets of the Trust are being decreased in the accounts to reflect what is sold. That's actually a very good point.
