Re: RIAT 2020

The British Air display Association has given an official statement on twitter that air displays should continue as normal as all air shows are in a large space like an airfield or seafront so there is no need to assume that RIAT will be cancelled They have done no such thing. They forwarded genera...

Re: Official costs of RAF displays and static teams 2019

These costs don't tell the full picture as most shows will have to pay hotel/accommodation costs as well for the sometimes quite sizeable support crews!

Re: Sunderland airshow 2019

Sunderland can be a challenging venue for fast jets and less agile types as it is in a bay which for the most part is occupied. That means their 230m is displaced slightly to accommodate the topography. The slower and more agile aircraft such as the PC-7 can often 'use the bay' more so they do appea...

Re: Royal Navy International Air Day 2019

There are still restrictions on "swept wing" jets performing aerobatics overland. The CAA have a process by which overseas pilots and aircraft can be validated. See SRG1328 and SRG1329 on the CAA website. For example, Duxford would have used these forms to permit the Breitling Jet team (wh...

I do not understand how these regulations are made: a WWII or even a WWI replica can display (even the Vulcan could) but a Viggen can not. Under CAA/MAA regulations - which are some of the most stringent on the planet - only certain nations civilian pilot display authorities are recognised as being...

Re: RIAT 2019

I suspect RIAT feel the need to have to post something on social media every day as part of the their FOMO marketing. It is a rather aggressive way of making sure followers "see" RIAT every day.

With a space theme, I dread to think what they'll start posting on Saturday....

The organisers have confirmed the RAF Typhoon, Solo BBMF Spitfire, Pitts Special, Blades and Yak-3 for the display. Sadly, there was no suitable DZ for the Falcons so they have been turned down.
