And almost 80 years of disliking “Limeys” His Twitter feed was always a good read - stereotypical 'Grandpa on social media for the first time' reading. Many great achievements in this career but civility didn't seem to be a strong suit with him. Whether it was the pilots, the beer or the quality of...

Agreed all start somewhere, I meant it also seemed a fairly low all over total compared to other pilots on high powered birds.
Yeah, very much indicative of a private owner as opposed to your “invited” warbird pilots.

Re: Hurricane Landing Incident @ Duxford ~ 01 June

Seems a low houred pilot to be on a Hurri but then again used to ex Raf pilots totals. These things happen, both are ok and will fly again. At some point all Hurricane pilots have zero hours on type, but he would have had plenty of experience on feeder types (eg Chipmunk, Harvard etc) to be able (i...

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?

For what exactly? For putting his hand deep in his pocket and securing a museum area so many of the airframes are safe?? Didnt he own that area, after the long term lease was sold to the car guys? The area is outside the peri-track and perimeter fence of the leased area. So yes, he did own it. Lots...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet

Not to mention the fact that the museum's current policy is something called 'reducing the conservation footprint', in other words getting rid of more than they add. At least 20 IWM airframes have been disposed of in recent years. Yep. Physical exhibits are more expensive to maintain and acquire in...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet

I think the bigger issue wouldn’t necessarily be runway length, but taxiway width and documented overall pavement strength. And the lack of anywhere to part it.

If it’s going there to earn its keep as a movie/TV prop, then I wouldn’t read much into it having any effect on Dunsfold’s future.

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

I'm fairly sure the external Fire Escape stairs from the tail boom area down to the ground at the back will never be noticeable! :see_no_evil: Then again, do we see complaints about the staircases at museums like Sinsheim/Speyer to allow access to the roof mounted aeroplanes there? Realistic...

Although I’m not sure any local authority will be in a position to reject anything promoting visitors to their province! :) Fair points regarding the RAFM and tin triangle. The former I suppose fits in with their policy and interest sphere (ie, consciously or not probably stil WW2 biased). That latt...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

Whilst I don’t believe anyone would claim the Beverley ranks as an iconic or important aircraft type in the history of British aviation, this is still the last surviving example and it’s sad to see its impending demise. It’s sadder too that it’s happening with hardly a a whisper of opposition from ...

Oh dear. Don't really need the wings either then, as nobody will be sleeping in those!
On the flip side, given it is no longer to be a “complete” exhibit, removing the (heavy) engines surely actually improves the long term structural prospects?

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

XB259 represents the breed, regardless of its personal history. What if the owner kept it at Elvington, which is just up the road, boosting that museums income, and he charges people a small sum to go on board. Then in the future he uses that money, along with some from the museum for its upkeep? J...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

Wwhilst i appreciate all comments for and against, can i just point out that at the moment, it's a big lump of metal sitting on a third parties ground, that needs a large chunk of cash from the public to dismantle, ship, and reassemble. Indeed so. Personally unless someone with deep pockets comes i...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

I’d be interested to see the make up of the CIC. Either way, what planet are they on? If the other bidder was reportedly a scrap merchant I think they’ve done very well getting it made into an AirBNB! It was hardly pulling visitors to Fort Paull and it’s rather telling that no museum seemed willing ...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

So we pay via a crowdfunding excercise to move and re assemble the aircraft, so that someone can make money by renting it as an air BnB? Apart from 'saving' (and i use that word carefully) the aircraft on a field with presumably limited access, what do the crowdfunders get? It aint exactly Tom Moor...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

Sounds like a realistic plan and a sensible use.

It’s not a viable museum piece; having to earn its keep might ensure it stays a complete airframe.

Re: USMC Mid-Air - F-35/KC-130 USMC F-35B

The Hercules was a recent visitor to Mildenhall. Looking at pictures from the front on it looks like 3 engines were taken out. Air Force cross for the C-130 pilot I hope. Looking at that pic I think the damage on the right may just be the result of the collision (as apparently said in the comms rec...

Condor Aviation, they have a small maintenance facility on the edge of what was once RAF Riccall in North Yorkshire. NOT Elvington.

And if you think the waxworks look bad in the pictures, you should see them in reality!
Indeed not Elvington. The buyer mentioned in another forum has his own - grass I think - airfield.
