Re: Really sad no big Lincolnshire airshows

Airshows are on borrowed time in the UK, unfortunately. The reasons are threefold in my opinion: 1. The relentless downsizing of the armed forces means they are less able to either host or support proper open days and airshows like they used to. The knock on impact of this to the civvy run shows is ...

Re: Anybody feeling nostalgic over Scampton?

That's all very well reheat module, but at the absolute very least, DBH (the party I assume responsible), could make a public statement dressed up in whatever lingo they like, amounting to, forget it! The project's been kyboshed. FB Scampton is dead as a dodo - the base is closing remember. DBH did...

Re: RAF Upper Heyford

It’s great to read all your stories from the glory days at Heyford, please keep them coming. It’s a base I often drive past and wonder what life was like in times gone by. A family member of mine worked within the Officers Mess during the days of the B47. Just out of interest, once all the F111s le...

Re: Who would you have as PM?

Interesting that "vision" was mentioned. I agree with this. A good leader will have a vision as to how they want to shape their country for the long term. The fact that the word "Thatcherism" exists is a tribute to the fact that Thatcher was a visionary (I'm not saying I agree w...

You're going back a few years spiney, but yes I agree. American politics sets the gold standard in tribalism, not something to aspire to in my opinion.

Re: Who would you have as PM?

I was watching the news last night and a reporter was interviewing Trump fans waiting to attend one of his speeches. Asked about the impeachments, they claimed it was a witch hunt, fix up, made up evidence etc etc with clearly zero regard for actually going through the evidence produced at the hear...

Re: Who would you have as PM?

I stand by my thoughts on why I think Jo Swinson would make the best leader as a person, whilst respectfully (note - respectfully Andrew) accepting other's views too. As I attempted to make clear in my original post, this was intended to be a discussion on the relative personal qualities in each of...

Re: Who would you have as PM?

The original question was very clear regarding putting party and policy asside (Andrew has just brought policy back into the thread) and judging individuals on their own personal merits/attributes. It's a pretty simple question IMHO. I'm baffled as to why it's so complex? But having a clear politic...

Re: Who would you have as PM?

Well FB posted this: [i]He has a sense of humour, unique among politicians. He speaks to one and all on a level which is not patronizing, again, setting himself apart from his peers. He has an extensive well educated vocabulary, this sets him way beyond the others. To some, these are good reasons t...

Nearly 2000 views, over 60 posts and 3 pages - I still haven't seen one person give a good reason to vote for Johnson, apart from the fact he's not Corbyn. Come on guys - if you are a supporter, then give us a reason to support Johnson the man, the leader, that isn't just saying he's better than th...

Re: Who would you have as PM?

To those who voted BJ in this poll, I'm genuinely interested, could you post three personal qualities that make him worthy of selection above the other options? Likewise for Ms Swinson - who on earth thinks she is in the slightest bit qualified to run the country? She's completely delusional, to th...

Re: New Hotel @ IWM Duxford

There is no such thing as Planning Permission in this day and age. Our wondrous Government have given developers a blank cheque to build whatever they like wherever they like. The only question likely to be asked is "How quick can you build it?" It's a really sad state of affairs that show...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

I do believe most of us knew what we were voting for and made our own decisions on you'd be surprised. at least 3 people in my office have admitted to voting for what their partner told them to because they didn't understand it. unsurprisingly, these 3 are now asking why we just can't cancel it. i ...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

What a fantastic circular discussion this is, but I think we are forgetting the fundamentals of what got us here in the first place. Back in 2016, when we voted to Leave, one of the key issues was uncontrolled immigration. We were running at net 250-300k additional people per annum. It was completel...

FOR SALE: 1x Adult Cosford Club Airshow ticket

Due to a change in circumstances I now have a spare Cosford Club enclosure ticket for the Airshow on Sunday 9th June.

I believe these sold out sometime ago. Ideally would like to get back what I paid, so face value of £65.

Let me know if interested.

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

“The establishment” Farage *is* the establishment. As is Banks. OK, we risk splitting hairs here, kind of by definition anybody who gets to a position of power or influence becomes "the establishment". Its a bit like saying Trump is now the establishment, when clearly he's railed against ...

Later phases of HS2 are surely important for Midlands - 'The North' links. Maybe HS2 in reverse would benefit the country as whole more - better links in the North to the midlands and vv and if the country is not bankrupt by then extend it southwards. It's that argument about build new versus maint...

Nigel Farage has absolutely nothing. No specifics. No plans. No ideas. He’s a one-trick pony brought back from the dead. He’s a proven liar. He lied the day after the referendum and he has lied and lied again since. His side broke the law, and he still refuses to disclose who is funding him this ti...

Similarly, the Government can find 50-100 billion for HS2 (to serve London), but regional railways are starved of funding, with old rolling stock, rail stations that are in disrepair and terrible local connectivity. . While agreeing with much of what you said I have to point out that network rail t...

Confirmation bias has played a very large role in the Brexit debate.
