Re: RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread
Went Wednesday (P&V East), Thursday (Flyby Camping) and Saturday (Showground). All in a very satisfying 3 days, Arrivals days were great value with lots of action and probably the best of the weather. I thought the static was exceptional, and I think history will judge it very kindly, highlights...

Re: Really sad no big Lincolnshire airshows
Airshows are on borrowed time in the UK, unfortunately. The reasons are threefold in my opinion: 1. The relentless downsizing of the armed forces means they are less able to either host or support proper open days and airshows like they used to. The knock on impact of this to the civvy run shows is ...

Re: Anybody feeling nostalgic over Scampton?
That's all very well reheat module, but at the absolute very least, DBH (the party I assume responsible), could make a public statement dressed up in whatever lingo they like, amounting to, forget it! The project's been kyboshed. FB Scampton is dead as a dodo - the base is closing remember. DBH did...

It’s great to read all your stories from the glory days at Heyford, please keep them coming. It’s a base I often drive past and wonder what life was like in times gone by. A family member of mine worked within the Officers Mess during the days of the B47. Just out of interest, once all the F111s le...

There is no such thing as Planning Permission in this day and age. Our wondrous Government have given developers a blank cheque to build whatever they like wherever they like. The only question likely to be asked is "How quick can you build it?" It's a really sad state of affairs that show...

FOR SALE: 1x Adult Cosford Club Airshow ticket
Due to a change in circumstances I now have a spare Cosford Club enclosure ticket for the Airshow on Sunday 9th June.
I believe these sold out sometime ago. Ideally would like to get back what I paid, so face value of £65.
Let me know if interested.
Nick

I can't decide between Leuchars 2008 where the fog was so thick we could only hear the Vulcan to a taxi! or the very last Woodford show where all I could see of the Austrian Draken display was its afterburner cone in amidst the rain and fog!! Leuchars 2008 was such a disappointment - as always the ...

Looks like early '88, with the final segment being the last 9 ship on 29th April 1988.

Loving the politics debate, but.... Scampton is a piece of living history, and should be treated with some respect by whichever bunch of clowns is in Government. It is a national asset, and should NOT be allowed to simply be sold off to the highest bidder (a housing developer no doubt), and plunder...

Fantastic set - what amazing access you had! Did a similar trip myself, for the first time, in April 97 (for the USAF 50th at Nellis) and distinctly remember the SR-71 being on static, so it must have lingered on a little while longer at least. The US West coast is amazing - where else can you get t...

Great pics - went past the old place the other day, in the process of being redeveloped - doubt there will be much left of it soon. Just as sad was Wyton, airfield site now looking very neglected and likewise on borrowed time before the housing developers move in I suspect. You know you're getting o...

hi Basically they will try to monitor all communications within their area of operations/interest. At one time times they used basic radio scanning radios. I believe AOR (Japan) were a frequent supplier. Suspect they now use many software defined type radios so they can analyse at their convenience...

amazed everyone hs getting so wound up about the commentary, or lack of. Once you've been to a few RIATs, or just airshows in general, the commentary is just noise surely? "Spitfire P7350 is the only surviving airworthy BoB Spitfire, it still has it battle damage repair markings, etc, blah, bla...

Great effort as usual by the team from DBH. Not sure there's anywhere else you could see such an eclectic mix, from Sycamore to Osprey and Anson to KC-390 and pretty much everything in between. The only let down for me was the RAF100 theme, so much more could have been made of this by the RAF. For e...

Re: Display line distance
Interesting discussion, that really confirms the death of UK airshows (as we knew them) So there's hardly any inland venues left, that are not subject to onerous restrictions due to adjacent development (roads/houses/industrial, etc) And seaside venues are basically a waste of time due to the displa...
