Re: Interesting Internet

That's certain airshows lunch breaks sorted then! This is a daft take, when was the last time a Wildcat was in a UK flying display, let alone as a pair, people who hold this opinion are a bunch of sausages. A friend of mine was a Military Heli Pilot. He described Helicopter displays as something re...

Re: Topic of the Week #100: Hundredth Anniversar...eh? (RCAF 100)

I’ve just done a Google search which lead to a thread on Fighter Control. (Sorry but I couldn’t copy a link on my phone). This is the gist of it: “All 3 of the CAF CF-104 sqns of 1CAG(441, 439, 421) at Sollingen had a team at one time or another from 1970-1980. They were either 4 or 5 ship teams (3...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

I see Austria is 'ongoing' - more likely to come in a Zeltweg year when they have displays worked up. Shame the RAF don't support Zeltweg really - would help the case with a bit of tit for tat swapping I'm sure. The QRA Pair of Typhoons is awesome but the Austrians have other displays - for example ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

You might know exactly but as a quick guesstimate - with over 40 years of F-16s at IAT at say 10-20 examples a year on average ( flying, spares and static) . Must be over 500 total F-16 appearances - pushing toward 1000? Go on , I'm game! Your numbers aren't far out by my reckoning, First appeared ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Not knocking the Slovenian display as last time I saw it I was very impressed, just not an update to get very excited about. A static Spartan doesn’t set the world on fire for me whether is Slovenian or from a country never heard of. Hope mentioning of just the static US participation doesn’t mean ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The Polish F-16 was fantastic at Radom last year - my favorite fast jet solo display of the show . This was mainly because it flew both days in the late evening light and was a total flares fest. Pretty much the same for Pat Suisse. Fairford would be so much better with Flares and Evening flying - ...

Re: Interesting Internet

I could be wrong, but I don’t think a special coloured jet materially affects a nation’s warfighting capabilities (the special Dannebrog F-16, for instance, was used on a live QRA intercept of a Russian aircraft). And if this is indeed WTD61, it’s not even a frontline unit. It’s a test and developm...

One plus, you do get to see some heavies thrown around unlike RIAT where just seeing a heavy in the air is a rare treat. That's the draw for me, oh and it's a 15 minute drive... :D I used to work on the airfield - but could not see the approach or runway from the workshop. Always needed to get some...

Re: 'The face of things to come'

Off topic I know but it is about "things to come". How do people plan their day out at RIAT at the moment if they have an electric car, allowing for say a three hour journey there, a big queue getting in/out and same journey home? What happens when the vast majority of attendees have elec...
