Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The Polish F-16 was fantastic at Radom last year - my favorite fast jet solo display of the show . This was mainly because it flew both days in the late evening light and was a total flares fest. Pretty much the same for Pat Suisse. Fairford would be so much better with Flares and Evening flying - ...

Re: Interesting Internet

I could be wrong, but I don’t think a special coloured jet materially affects a nation’s warfighting capabilities (the special Dannebrog F-16, for instance, was used on a live QRA intercept of a Russian aircraft). And if this is indeed WTD61, it’s not even a frontline unit. It’s a test and developm...

Re: FIA 2024

One plus, you do get to see some heavies thrown around unlike RIAT where just seeing a heavy in the air is a rare treat. That's the draw for me, oh and it's a 15 minute drive... :D I used to work on the airfield - but could not see the approach or runway from the workshop. Always needed to get some...

Re: 'The face of things to come'

Off topic I know but it is about "things to come". How do people plan their day out at RIAT at the moment if they have an electric car, allowing for say a three hour journey there, a big queue getting in/out and same journey home? What happens when the vast majority of attendees have elec...

Farnborough Airshow 2024, not hoping for much but hopefully they can pull something interesting from RIAT to display Who cares about F'boro - more like can't Fairford get something that's going to be at F'boro ? Shame I first went in 76 and already its reputation was better than the reality - and b...

Nice George - you should get a medal for attending... I think the phrase should be only Mad dogs and crazy Aussie Spotters go out when it's 38! Although Actually I went to Amberley show (2007/2008) for the last 111 gig at home base and that was something similar - we think it's warm at 20C across th...

Jeez, are they going to drag this out one a week until June with stuff that is always going to be there? Come on Paul get up with it. I note your cynical posts these days. This is the world we live in - I guarantee someone will post each and every RAF display for Cosford as if they are something no...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

You might know exactly but as a quick guesstimate - with over 40 years of F-16s at IAT at say 10-20 examples a year on average ( flying, spares and static) . Must be over 500 total F-16 appearances - pushing toward 1000? First appeared (2x Norg flying/spare, 1 x Dutch static) in 1981, I remember as...

Amazing participation from Denmark! Seriously? two F-16s and a Challenger. Don't get me wrong. Great they're coming but a seriously overstated description of "amazing". Its comical! But at least the kids are keen - not grumpy like us ! You might know exactly but as a quick guesstimate - w...

1977 and 1991 were both pretty good. :innocent:
Seconded

77 was my first IAT - awesome.

Fighter Meet in 97 was fantastic - even for the 90s!

Just no more PC-9 meets pls
