Re: Is RIAT still the best?

My bug-bear with the Royal International Air Tattoo is just the shift in focus on the showground and the advertising the show gets during the run up to the event- essentially the "most exciting" aspect for us enthusiasts. I do feel for Tom Gibbons. He replaced Rob Windsor back in late 2011...

Re: RIAT Commentary - 2012 vs 2013

I try and position myself as far away from the speakers as possible but it is getting increasingly difficult. I vote for a quiet zone, a nice spot on the ropes where I can't hear commentary, fairgrounds, racing cars or piped music. It's not too much to ask is it? Part of the role of the commentary ...

Re: Official RIAT Statement – November 2013

Just properly read TVOR's initial post and couldn't help but laugh. If I didn't laugh, I'd cry. So that post was for us to know that they've read the comments on the forum, but they're still going in the god awful direction they went in, in 2013. So we've now got: -Horrendous display lines -Loud, an...

Are you an enthusiast or photographer first?

Simple question. Are you a keen photographer who happened to stumble across aviation with the hobby? Or are you the opposite; are you a keen aviation enthusiast who bought a camera and went from there? Or do you consider yourself as both someone who equally loves aviation as well as photography? I t...

I'm fairly sure that any admin fee should be incorporated in the ticket price and not charged as an "extra" After the criticism this got last year, it's back? Doesn't bode well for them taking on board the rest of the points made in 2013, does it? Nothing riles people more than the sense ...

Re: A Genuine Question

Whatever will be said will probably NOT happen for RIAT 2014 and we'll be subjected to car shows, out of tune singers, a Tri@RIAT cavalcade covering all 2 miles of the showground, the Royal Jordanian Falcons and a Chris Strawson sponsored solo Jet Provost display. Sorry Douglas Bader House, I've att...

Re: A Genuine Question

Quickly off the top of my head... - Embarrassing PR disasters. There have been too many over the last 12-24 months. - Putting non-aviation showground events before the airshow. - Removal of the best static spot for photos (by the trees). - George Bacon. - Change of formula. It's the worlds largest ...

Re: RIAT / FRIAT / P&V 2014

Yes I guess that would technically amount to exclusive access!! Maybe the second half of my idea could work though - put the non display Reds on static display? I'm guessing there are spare Hawks as well as 10 & 11 which could be used (are there??). That'd be quite nice anyway over the weekend,...

a few days at Legends will offer better photo opportunities Not for fast jets it wont. Neither does Duxford offer the sun behind you all day which RIAT does (Ok I know it goes off right at the very end of the day at Fairford, but if the best photo opportunities were crowd side at Duxford you wouldn...

I'd edge the Angels over the T'birds f'sure but I don't really know why there's so much derision for the USAF ADS. Did you SEE them at Fairford on their last visit? One of the least-polished, most ragged national display team performances I have ever seen* * Yes, this includes the Saudi Hawks And y...
